I just got done replacing the rear coils on my sisters 97 SHO. After replacing everything and putting it back together. I started it up and after a short while the SES came on. I went ot advanced auto and the code was a P1518. Idal speed control, aux inputs, manf control veh speed. I searched the p1518 code and come up with someone saying the butterflies aren't fully closed. Which might explain why the car feels slughish off the line. But after checking, the butterflies are fully closed (i'm pretty sure anyways) but the butterflies don't seem to be opening at all either. I reved up the motor to 4K and they never opend up. Does it have to be in D for them to open. My Duratecs butterflies open up at 33500rpms when I'm under the hood.
Is it possible the IMRC box is broke? And the engine seems to be moving around alot, like theirs a really bad stutter or the motor mounts are wopped.

IMRC cable or pulley is broken.

IMO just wire the butterflies open all the time and throw the IMRC box away..

I know i could simply take the IMRC box off and wire open the butterflies. BUT wont the SES light still be on. And wont my low end be effected?
I was thinking about the Xcal3 and getting a tune for haveing the butterflies open. Are their any real gains from it, having the butterflies open with the xcal? I'm sure their will be gains just casue of the other tuning from the xcal.

After a while it goes away.

As long as no other SES codes get thrown.

alright. I'll give it ashot and see how it goes. if the car drives worse, than I'll probably change it back to the way it was. I'll just disconnect the electric connector to the box and zip tie the arm mechinizim down that moves the butterflies.

I think I might miss hearing the secondaries open up, It's kind of like when the two end carbs open on the Tri-power in the GTO. Well.... kind of.

I got a p1518 recently, and it turns out that the cable snapped. It's noticeably slower in the low end, and I want to get a new box (me & Alan kinda tore it apart while trying to figure out what was wrong with it...), but I don't know how to put in a new cable.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I HAVE wired the secondaries open, of course.

I don't miss the sound at all. I personally prefer actually having power, rather than just sounding like I do.

Yeah the next time I see my sister I'm going to wire open the seconderies. I just don't have the time or resources to take the whole intake off again and the LIM to get the butterflies out. And if i go that far, I'll probably wait and see if i can come across a set of BBBS for the gen3 SHO and just take the BBBs out.
SHould I disconnect the battery before I wore open the secondieres or does is not matter that much?

I would disconnect the battery to get the fuel trims back to stock and let the PCM learn from there. The cold idle will be a bit rough for a few starts. Try to just let it idle for a couple of minutes a 2-3 times before taking off.

Be sure to unplug the IRMC plug too.

My cable just broke, wired it open, no difference in performance. Sounds much better all of the time with my open cone, and I don't really miss the secondaries at all (since they always seemed to open around cops and make them look). The only downside is if I do not let the car warm up on super cold mornings, it stumbles a little at shift point until it builds heat.
