There is a certain 90 sho that supposedly has the stock factory clutch in it... It has 101k on the clock. Could he have misspoken or is it possible? How long has your stockers lasted for you? What kind of driving habits do you have?

The stock clutch on my 92 SHO went 128K, but now at 243K there is a light clacking sound when I push in the clutch, so I don't expect a repeat performance. I'm guessing it's the throwout bearing, because it still shifts smoothly through all gears.

I bought my car w 77k and now has over 151k. I haven't replaced the clutch, nor do I know how many miles are on it. I also taught myself 5 speed on this clutch. The clutch is kinda stiff now, but it still works good enough to shifts smooth and solid and it doesn't slip.

I've abused the clutch in the past, but my driving habits over the past 3 years are very conservative. I don't push the tranny or engine hard most of the time

Well, can't claim my stock clutch lasted all that long given the original "stock" clutch was recalled shortly after production... However, the replacement 9.75" clutch lasted from 10k thru 99k. Clutch itself was still ok but the TOB had worn a nasty grove causing a bind and only partial release.

I replaced the clutch at 75k with a Quaife install. Again at 98k when the tranny blew, I didn't want to pull the tranny again later for a clutch. Again at 130K when the tranny blew again. I really haven't worn out a clutch yet.

Well lets see:

Black 89: Got the original smaller clutch a 90K but its definitely time for a change.

Green 91+: Got the original clutch at 105K runs like a champ.

Maroon 91+: Replaced Clutch at 100K by previous owner.

Red 92: Gpt the original clutch at 104K runs like a champ.

Moral of the story if you don't abuse your clutch it will last a long time!! :)

My clutch was replaced with a stock unit at 112k back in '99. Just replaced it this past month, at 194k. So 82 k and 8 years or so. Treat it right and it will last.

I bought my 93 with 122k miles from the second owner, who told me it still had the original clutch. It now has 138k mi. and is showing signs of failing soon.

the black one has over 40,000 on the autozone stock valeo.

I bark second and live up to my handle in first...at least once a week. Otherwise I'm fairly prudent with the friction...in other words, I don't always use the clutch to cushion the shift. I just get the revs close and let it out, then I'm back on the gas.

That clutch still feels brand new.

The best way to get the most out of a clutch in these old cars is to buy a new clutch quadrant and clutch cable first. This will allow factory tension between the TOB and pressure plate fingers, decreasing the chance of finger wear compared to the old parts. Then, never rest your foot on the clutch pedal at any time, and keep the clutch slipping to a minimum. The clutch disc only wears when it is being slipped (example: riding the clutch pedal out to get going from a dead stop), not from taking the rpm's up to 7k. And lift up on the clutch pedal from time to time to keep the cable properly tensioned, as it will self adjust. A good ideal time would be at every oil change, and after some street racing or track runs.

I stay FAR away from stock clutches.

According to records, my daily driver SHO went thru FIVE clutches by 120k miles.

I picked up the car @ 89k, and I blew up 2 of them. One a PP failure, the other was a clutch disc spring failure. So believe me when I say I do drive it hard.

Im pushing 30k now on a Fibertuff 9-puck/HD pressure plate combo right now, and it feels just as good as it did the day I installed it.

I say that a stock clutch is great for a SHO driven by gram and gramps. Anybody else better have at MINIMUM a reinforced pressure plate.

The original owner of mine replaced the clutch at 80k. The car has 110k on it now and it feels fine.

The stock on mine lasted 130k. It only has 160k now so I'm hoping for another 40k out of this one.

116K miles on original clutch, of which 45K was under my foot. The current 9 puck Fibertuff disc/HD PP combo has just started exhibiting slippage after 64K miles, so I'm in the clutch market again.
