horrible idle

Im trying to get the gen 3 back on the road because the Gen 2 i had is now totalled and after i trailer the car to my house i enload it and take it for a spin and under low rpm acceleration the car has something like a miss and doesnt have much power but at WOT you can feel it pick the cyliders up. When the car is sitting idleing it is really rough and just replaced the rear bank of coils and one up front. I returned one of the coils and got another one because i thought it was defective and reseted the computer and under three quarters throttle it was fine until i stopped and tried it again. IDEAS??????????

What are the chances of a fouled plug because just before i pulled the motor it was running really rich but not now. Plugs were changed 15,000 miles ago.

Today i checked for vacumm leaks and there was none. I found that it is still running real rich and it has the code P0172 and P0136 system too rich, It could still be the three coils i had not yet replaced because it is often but intermitten. With a test light i made sure all injectors were firing and they were so can a coil be working but just not good or should i look for something else. I had this problem before all the exaust work. Thanks for any help

Today i had got a code of 02 malfunction, so does anyone think this is whats making my car run really lean, and could it have been bad for a while and just now throwing a code. Thanks

Actually the 172 code means you are running too lean and the PCM cannot add any more fuel to correct the problem.

136 is a bad connection at the rear O2 sensor or an exhaust leak before the converter.

The 172 code could also be because of an exhaust leak.

I had the code 172 before any exhaust work and used all the same o2 sesors so could it be a bad o2.

bad idle

My Ford dealer says my bad idle is because the secondary actuator arm is stuck and won't close the secondary runners. Does that make sense to anyone?

I dont think that would be the problem because there are some people who wire them open with no change in idle. The last time i went to the dealer it was a waste of my money.



Here are all the symptoms my car has had.
alot of black smoke out of the exhaust
fluctuating of 700 rpms at a slow roll, intermittently
rough idle, intermittently
when getting on the freeway everyday the onramp is at an in cline with a sharp turn to the left and this is the only time it feels like its starving for fuel, its very hesitant. As soon as i level out it takes right off.

Black smoke = rich am I not right?

Did you get a tune after you removed the cats?

No but i had all of these problems before i removed cats.
Yes it is running rich but has before any work was done, I was hoping that after haveing the motor out the problems would disapear. There is a dent in the bottom of the gas tank, should there be any concern with that.

if you just take the cats out this will happen, the rich code and the black soot on everything. You need a tuner, new 02's or both.

I would return the car back to stock and install NEW 02's, fix your LIM and start again. with all the changes you have made it makes dianoseing a PITA.

Right now i dont have time to return everything back to stock because my other car was totalled. Today getting on the freeway and this has happened before it feels almost like it will drop like 2 cylinders and doesnt have much power and if you give it more gas after a second it will pick up the cylinders and have alot more power. I think this weekend im going to pull all of the plugs and look at them.

Let's try this again: TRY CLEANING YOUR MAF. The symptoms you describe are often caused by a contaminated MAF sensor.

It has a brand new $130 MAF sensor and I switched with three used ones sorry i didnt post. This is wierd no one i know can think of what it might be, I will be taking it to a mechanic this weekend.
