There are posts about it on the f150 forums but not a lot on the Taurus forums. I personally have them on all three of my vehicles, F-150 platinum, Explorer platinum and my Taurus and they are the worst by far on the Taurus. F-150 and Explorer massage alternating between the seat and the back, Taurus only does either or. F-150 and Explorer massage a lot harder, Taurus is a very mild “massage” to the point where sometimes I forget that it’s even on.

Taurus was the guinea pig for so many features that were vastly improved later on. The heated front seats, for example.

And it shows. I spent a year looking for my Taurus with the options I wanted and it feels like a much less refined version of my other vehicles. Runs great and is a blast to drive but the convenience features feel like the prototype versions of my other cars.

Personally I dislike the massage seat, but that could be because the one in my 2010 has a mind of its own. It will randomly start massaging and you can't turn it off!

As for the Sync2 to Sync3 conversions, I have done them in both of my parent's vehicles (a 2013 F150 and a 2014 Explorer). The Upgrade was definitely worth it IMO as the outdated Sync2 was so bad we just used our phones for everything anyway. If you buy a kit, be careful where you get it. If you don't mind the leg work, you may be able to piece a 'kit' together yourself for less using salvage yard parts for the major components.

<WARNING RANT BELOW>
I originally bought the ~$600 kits on eBay (at the time the NaviUpgrade kits were >$1000, the exact kit I bought is $400 now) and the one in the explorer seems to be working OK but we had several issues with the one purchased for the F150. Turns out, that even though they were advertised as "Genuine OEM" parts, the APIM's in both the kits were 'counterfeit Chinese' modules. The 1 in the F150 wouldn't shut off the screen when the truck was off. The seller offered to connect to it remotely, and used a pirated copy of Forscan to try to reprogram it, but they were unable to solve the battery drain. The seller then blamed the fuse box and stopped responding to my messages. I reached out to some of the people that originally "discovered" the Sync2 to Sync3 upgrade path and they tried to help, even getting the module to fall asleep when the truck was off, but it would still **** the battery after sitting a couple of days. They then asked me to send them photos of the sticker on the APIM and they immediatly recognized problems with them and determined they were fake
- The ford logos were literally cut out of the stickers
- The part number printed on the sticker doesn't exist on Ford's site, and a google search for them returns only S2 to S3 upgrade kits
- The part number doesn't match the manufacturer date (although it could be a service part, but unlikely/rare)
- The 2D code on the sticker (Which should be like a serial number or something) decodes to "." that's it just a period
- Both APIMs had the same serial number on them
- PN on the stickers did not match part numbers in software
I bought an APIM from a salvage 2018 F150 for $85, swapped it into the 2013 (I noted that the counterfeit APIM was buzzing while the truck was off), programmed it with ForScan, and it has worked fine ever since with only 1 outstanding issue. That being, sometimes the radio starts at volume level 14 no matter what it was set at when shut off, which can be a rude awakening early in the morning.

Interesting. I just received my Chinesium Sync 3 upgrade kit for my SHO. I hope your issues don't surface with my car.

[added] Just looked again at what I received. Assembled in Mexico 06/12/2020. FoMoCo is embedded, not sticker. Part number comes back as APIM. I hope this is a good sign. Phew.

Post pictures please of the apim. Identifying indicators. I just purchased a sync 3 upgrade and was SUPER irritated when I saw it was drop shipped out of china. Tried to cancel the purchase and was denied. I’ll be contesting the purchase if it’s anything other than the “genuine ford parts” that was advertised (I know they won’t be genuine).
