Hello i am swapping a 1989 taurus SHO motor into a 280zx and well i would like to know how do i get the ecu to go into the "run state without a ignition switch? I have pins 1 37 and 57 which are the power or hot at all times pins and all of the grounds are connected to the negative terminal on the battery just for now the reason and if anyone else could help me what is the pin for ignition on the ecu?

You going to do alot of cutting? Width and height dimensions of the SHO motor might be tricky to stuff in there

This link has been quite helpful for me. Mine is stuffed into a Porsche 914.

My son has a 280z. Lots of horizontal space, not sure about vertical.

I'm assuming this is in a North/South configuration?

Its actually fitting pretty well but since your son has an s30 chassis you should probably get with someone named ian tanner he was the first to swap a sho into a datsun specifically the s30 chassis

Alright and for the red and green wire how did you power that? Im talking about pin 37 of course and also pin 57 im asking since im worried about powering the ecu and harness at the sane time since id perfer to send power to the ecu and have the ecu send it out

Can you use original hood? The height looks really close. Intake to the fender? Interesting. Really tight

I wired it just as indicated in the instructions. Connections such as you've mentioned, 37 and 57 are switched by my old porsche ignition switch.. I added a relay, so technically the ignition switch energizes the relay, which drives 37 and 57... Pin 1 is hot all the times (fused battery power)

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, the ECU only works one way... You can't get it to do something different that what is specified.

Well im trying to run the engine on the ground, but right now im just trying to get spark i know my coil pack DIS and spark plugs are good but im still not getting spark, and what i did to try and power pin 37 was just splice into it and connect it directly to the battery but again still no spark

The pros on this site would likely convince you to check for codes via the KOEO test. I am a relative noob and struggled with a similar problem until just recently... Mine was the crankshaft position sensor, but the codes (or lack thereof) will likely point you

I believe you can just read the codes with an OBD-1 code reader for Ford. They are on Amazon for pretty cheap... (I use one) I suggest you post another question on a separate thread with this specific problem... Lots of smart folks here.

Did you run your engine outside of the car or did you throw it into your first?

And if you started it in your car what all did you remove and keep and also what pins did you connect to your car and what did you connect those pins to?
