I feel sorry for the owner who may have bought this new and stored it, thinking that selling it years later was going to put their kid through college or something. Although considering the other cars in that collection, they may just be a Ford collector.

Oh Damn. If it WAS an investment, they lost. IIRC the SHO's in 1998 were ~$30,000 list and not selling that well. Probably got it for ~$27,000 if I had to guess.

Now, IIRC, gold was a little under $300/oz. back then or 90 oz gold.
HMMMMMM........
That same oz of gold is ~$2600 today. Ouch. $234,000

If the car IS welded, it might fetch a quarter million......

Damn I wish my money was straight. Considering the price of modern new vehicles that would be something I would enjoy for a daily.

Not a great investment in gold?

It went up 2600/300 = 8.66 increase in value.

But that same investment in the S & P 500 would have gone up 9.17 times in value. It was a better investment.
Return of the S & P 500 since 1998

I only invest in things that produce economic value not a dead metal.

While I get what you are saying, do you get what I was saying?

Just about ANYTHING is a better investment than a SHO.

Maybe you have heard the old adage - "SHO, making mechanics out of ordinary people since 1989" ?
