Update: So my house is officially under contract. That is fun. My 40th birthday is Sept 2 and my house closes on Sept 6th. What a perfect time for a mid life crisis, and poor financial decisions! Quite fortuitous I must say. So hopefully in Nov/Dec I will be rocking a 2020 E63S as my official replacement for M.

I have a feeling, the E63S will inherit the name "M" as well. Just like in James Bond the title "M" has changed hands with different actors, so it may be the same in this case too.

The Lexus is still in my garage dead. I still haven't found motivation to re-pin her ECU while in 115 degree heat. So she remains on the back burner. My buddy does have interest in buying her through. He is a big Lexus guy and loves my car. So yeah.

Also let me address maybe selling the Lexus. The E63S even stock will be faster in every faucet. From a dig and roll. They are factory rated at 603 hp and 627 tq, all wheel drive, with a 9 speed dual clutch trans. Most E63S on the rollers make make 480 to 500 both HP and TQ to the tire stock on the the dyno. With downpipes and a good E30 tune, they make 600/600 to the tire. That is plenty for me.

Even though the Lexus will make more peak power, and is 1000 lbs lighter........the transmission is the achilles heal in it. The old R154 Five Speed is incredibly hard to launch, and is almost impossible to speed shift/power shift. Every shift the turbo falls out of boost. Unless I put a built automatic or a sequential dog box in it, it will always be a super peaky, just kinda fast, sports sedan. That being said after 600hp mark, it automatically gets the ability to shit the trans out onto the street at anytime.

So the dilemma, keep both? Or sell the Lexus and use the funds to buy a pre DEF diesel that I kinda need. So yeah.

The merc sounds like the next level SHO, has it all just does it better. My opinion on the Lexus is that of a similar situation I face with my foxbody. Keep the project knowing it will only be so great or move on and diversify your stable. For me it's about which pony gets fed, I have the truck, the sho, the fox, the postal jeep, and the wife's car. The truck gets fed over the fox simply because I use it, whereas my mustang even with a big block won't be as quick as my taurus so I'm asking myself more and more if I should cut that one loose even though ive had it since 19.

Back to you, if I were in your shoes and had 600/600 at the wheels I don't need my race car anymore, but to have a truck do truck things is very nice. Not sure what your preference of diesel is but for pre def reliability and pulling power I'd go for a 99-03 7.3 Ford and I'll bet your Lexus would net you enough to pick one up no problem. That gen was intercooled and a little beefier than the 94-98s

The 6.0 is a labor of love, same with 6.4 and then the 6.7s had Def I'm pretty sure. Dmax and cummins are high priced and early dmax and post 5.9l cummins had problems

Of course if simplicity is your aim and want it to run off waste oil and moose **** then a good old fashioned IDI will get the job done at 55mph, no more no less but it kills any flying insect in a 500ft radius.

You are completely correct about the AMG being a next level SHO. My GF bought a 2014 MB CLS 63S AMG (pictures are above) with the 5.5 Bi Turbo V8 with 4Matic (AWD). Factory it has 575 hp and 590 tq. Her's has downpipes and tune and absolutely rips. It is like the SHO but it does everything better. It's only draw back is it a 4 door couple so it is 2+2. The rear seats are bucket.

I want the E63S because it has the updated interior with tech, it is a full 5 seat sedan, and the 4.0 Bi Turbo V8 is closed deck. That being said, it makes a ton of power and they look so good.

As for the Diesel Truck. My buddy wants to sell me his. 2003 Dodge Cummins 5.9L. It has all the goodies. Built trans, cam, injectors, turbo, full exhaust, tuned, Carli Lift, full fuel system ect ect. He has had it for 14 years and I know how **** he is about maintenance and stuff. Plus it has been freshly repainted. He would keep it, but he wants 4 full doors. His is a crew cab with suicide doors. I need a truck to do truck things and I am really sick of stuffing my MTB into the hatch of the my Focus. LOL.

Hey buddy! Long time no talk. I am thinking the same thing. I am considering my buddies old Cummins. I wrote a blurb about it in the above post^. Hope all is well.

Congrats bro that thing is a luxury monster
It really puts things into perspective. The SHO was super nice. Leather, nice materials, heated, AC, massage seats. The performance was great and it checked all the boxes.

The E63 has everything the SHO did, just better. Only being a .5 liter bigger, the 4.0 biturbo V8 just does work. The 9 speed DCT trans is so crisp and smooth. Throw her race mode and that AMG performance exhaust is the chef's kiss.

There are alot of similarities between the two, yet they light years apart in others. I am very fortunate to have been able to own both.
