I can see these platforms are problematic and expensive to repair unless the somewhat expensive and rigorous maintenance schedule is maintained. That's why we offer up the advice we do because it's a deep rabbit hole if you buy someone else's neglected SHO

To add to this, every manufacturer makes cars that will run say 10 years 100K miles. MTBF mean time before failure - or in this case catastrophic failure - water.pumps in the engine - PTU and transmission that will go out. The manufacturer doesn't state a service schedule for the PTU, why? 100k buy a new one, they want you to buy just a Taurus.

Hard to tell if it's an engineer or marketing. Some engineer in a lab saying "it's an improved fluid good for 10k more than it's predecessor " marketing gets ahold of it and says "we'll call it lifetime fluid" I believe it just as much as the fuel addative that cleans clogged cats. In the words of the Amish, the old ways are the best ways. It might be a lifetime fluid but it's a short life span
