When I bought my 95 I put a battery and new starter in it. Fired right up. Was sitting for 2 years.
Gave the owner I got it from trouble from a broken subframe bolt making the DIS rub.. It was sitting for 2 years.
Did the fluids then I took it on a 300 mile road trip to Vermont.
I will be waiting patiently for the pictures.

I would just drop the tank anyway. 10 year old fuel is just a no go. Drop it and drain it out. Fuel pump could also be plugged up. Would gumout or carb cleaner help? Change the oil and drop in some Marvel Mystery oil to free up anything that's sticking. Cultch will be the biggest question. Sitting for so long it could possibly be quite rusted up. My main concern would be the condition of the cylinders and pistons. They could be rusted fast to the cylinder walls. I recommend at least pulling the plugs and checking the condition of the cylinders with a bore sight camera.

Sorry, been busy. Day three of driving, no issues really.
Day one my flight got pushed so I had to rent a car and arrived to the SHO around 5pm. I lubed all moving parts, swapped the fuel pump assembly, threw a battery in it and it fired right up. Sunday I drove it from Wenatchee Washington to Bozeman Montana. During the first leg, the brake light switch failed but no other issues. Today I left Bozeman and just conquered Yellowstone. Heading to Denver now. Only needed a driver side wiper today, passenger is the ten year old one and working amazing. Getting around 27-28mpg average. I'll see if I can post some pics

Last day of driving. Left Cheyenne Wyoming this morning. Engine was 2qt low on oil and the front driver tire was 5-6psi low. Coming into Dodge City Kansas as I type this. No issues today that would require repair to keep going. Somehow averaged 30.9mpg on this leg. AC compressor is trying to seize up, passenger lower ball joint needs replaced but chugging down the road otherwise.

You got the black interior model, nice find.

Glad to see your luck is holding. If you swapped out a fuel pump in an unfamiliar location, you have downplayed your abilities in this narrative.

No more advice from us; now you are the expert.

Great story and very inspiring.

Haa, I appreciate that. Better to under promise and over deliver or something like that. I'm in my home state as of now (Oklahoma). 180mi from home. I will photo dump once I have wifi. Car is holding up fine. This engine sounds amazing above 4k rpm.

Alright gentlemen and ladies, I made it home. Over 2200 miles on the original tires, fluids, brakes.. etc. I hope this inspires others to find cars that need rescue and use them to see more of America. Even if you're not quick with a wrench, YouTube and Google are libraries of knowledge that the Greeks dreamed of. I planned on changing many more parts on this but wanted to prove a point that cars are not that fragile and usually well engineered. Don't use me as an example on how to do it, use me as inspiration to do it.

Glad you made it home, brings back memories, I had a white/black 92 awhile back and it was the car I learned how to wrench on. It was someone else car that was an insurance lost, but the interior/body was too nice not to try and salvage it. Glad you saved it, looking forward to more pictures.

Wait, really? They eat oil? I thought for sure there is a leak because I'm not getting signs of consumption.

some of them do. The tolerances are not that great vs more modern Ford vehicles. I thought 1qt:1000mi was excessive, but other owners have experienced similar as per zoom above. YMMV on this. Also could be effected by tolerating small leaks more often than from other vehicles

I can confirm the oil pan was wet the whole trip. That's why I thought it was a leak

most likely. Usually valve cover gaskets leak more often than others. Then front crank seal, oil pan seal, cam seal. Rear main can leak but less often than others. vc can leak down the back and go to pan or hit exhaust. Mostly easy replacement on top and front. The 3 piece plastic timing cover overlaps so be careful when removing due to age of material.
