After 20-45 mins of driving I sometimes get a propane type smell that does eventually dissipate. I still have some factory powertrain warranty, should I take it to get a new PTU? Are dealerships fairly understanding of the issue or will I have to fight for them to do it?

Also a few weeks ago I scraped the front while going up a steep driveway (ugh) and now occasionally hear a clicking sound coming from the front left under light to moderate acceleration. It doesn't seem to happen when the car is cold, it also doesn't happen while braking, or turning and accelerating. Only while accelerating straight. There's no sensation of the sound causing a vibration in the cabin or through the steering, but the rate of the sound does seem to be in time with the wheel rotating. It isn't from the engine or any accessory drives, can rev it in neutral all day and it never clicks even while rolling. Any ideas? I looked all over in the well for loose plastic that might be occasionally rubbing on the tire and found nothing.

Smell of propane might be ptu dripping on exhaust, it's a terrible smell. Look at your brake dust plate behind rotor, it's easily bendable, that is a long shot but it might be tapping your suspension. If ptu is leaking, your lucky to to have a warranty.

The smell is fairly faint, and doesn't happen every time, could it be anything else?

Not off the top of my head. But still sounds like your exhaust heated up enough in that time frame that it's burning something off.

The clicking sound was the underbody cover flapping around, only $70 for new retainers.

PTU is toast, parts ordered, no ETA on when I get my car back... :(

Why was it deemed bad? I smell propane everytime I drive it. Changed fluid few times, it's perfect. And a new vent. I think I just have a seal leaking slightly

Haven't gotten a full report on it yet, just that they would replace it under warranty.

The car has 46k miles, and I have no way to know if it's ever been serviced so I figured why not get a new one? At least from now on I can make sure it's been taken care of properly.

Damn. Do they have a core charge? I'd buy it back.
If you want to DM me I can tell you the dealer doing the work. You could call and ask if they have any cores available innocently enough I think.

Sorry, I was saying it as you should buy it back to rebuild and keep it as a spare. I'd bet there is nothing wrong with it, they just want the work

My CV axles have made clicking sounds, might look at them. PTU going bad eventually sounds like a coffee can with change in it,. rattling under car. And check your cover underneath you might have knocked a mount loose, "the squares that cover bolts screw into, this would cause the cover to bounce, metal on metal, I did this nit long ago on a Kentucky driveway and all I heard was click click till I got home and saw the carnage underneath, I lock-tighted super glued mounts back to frame, so no movement, and clicking sound went away. Take cove off and if they move just by using your finger, and make a metal to metal sound that might be your problem there. Best of luck.
