Has been a pleasure letting Ortiz tune my SHO. Started off a bit dissapointing due to my fuel pump needing to be replaced. Was a little hesitant to get it replaced, things seemed fine but I am not a tuner nor very educated on the subject so I trusted them and replaced with new OEM pump.

5 revisions later and I am extremely pleased with how the car runs. Is very consistent and the way the power comes on is a constant pleasure whether crusing, rolling into it or from a dig. Smooth RPM increases all the way to the top of the gears.

Shifting is awesome, compared to my previous tuning expierence(Which really wasnt bad as far as that goes). Gears are engaged quickly and smooth. No harsh shifts.

Coming from a standalone non data logged tune I couldnt be happier. Its like I got my car tuned for the first time again. Should of went this route from the beginning.

Next up e30 tune.

I was a sucker for all the facebook hype last fall and I bought an Ortiz tune. At the time I was running 12.2's full weight on Gearhead tune. Sent in the log and was told I had a boost leak based on fuel trims. First pull it sounded like someone driving a manual with the clutch halfway pushed in when it was trying to shift into 2nd gear. After being told I had a boost leak, I sent Luis a log from gearhead tune where it held 17 psi of boost in 3rd and 4th gear. Response I got was basically "well we tune differently than other people, send another log when you fix that boost leak". Couple weeks later I ran my 11.75 with gearhead tune.

I did smoke test it over the winter and replaced both blow off valves and hot pipes, but my fuel trims are the same now as they were then, and they are the same as two years ago when I got tunes from Torie and Brad at AJP Turbo. Crazy everyone can tune my car with a boost leak but Ortiz.

Funny side story, I was recently messaged by an Ortiz customer saying I should try Ortiz because they need guys in the 11's. I laughed out loud at that one, and then again when I heard I wasn't the only one who had already ran 11's that had gotten a message like that.

Ortiz customers for the most part remind me of the Ess Ess I crowd. One or two guys show decent time slips and the rest of them run their mouths constantly about how slow the other tuners are. None of them ever seem able to post any times on dragy either.

He said the replaced both BOVs and the hot pipes and his fuel trims didn't change. I would say he didn't and doesn't have a boost leak.

I fell for the Facebook buzz as well. Initial base tune dipped to 750psi rear rail pressure. Emailed stated my fear as I spike 23.7lbs boost and dropped to 750psi at same time. Got a revision before I would load the tune again. Revision was better so we went to opx file. Thats where it all went south fast. Again fuel psi dips hard and spike but while it was doing this trans laid over and took what seemed like a 4 seconds to shift. While hanging around 6900rpm the trans squealed like it was on its death bed. 10/10 wouldn't recommend.

Smoke test did not reveal any leaks but by the time I smoke tested it I had long since ordered the epp intake and hot pipes already.

After installing both of those in february I did actually have a boost leak due to one of the clamps riding off the hose when I tightened it. I didn't find that tho, so in the course of troubleshooting via throwing parts at it, i replaced both bov's because i was stuck at 15 psi boost where normally it holds 17 in 3rd and 4th. I replaced the bov's because both had torn o rings.

Once I finally got the clamp figured out and fixed, my boost and fuel trims went right back to where they had always been.

My car runs good, but there's no way it would have ran 11.75 with an actual boost leak.

Thank you guys both for your feedback, we take all of our tunes seriously and are always striving to improve our performance. As you both know we aren't a one size fits all tune and as we've discussed at length we've taken this feedback and applied to all of our tunes going forward since both of your experiences to add additional safeties and prevent fueling issues from happening as a worst case scenario rather than allowing the issue to surface and then resolve it.

Both of your support contracts are still active, and if you would like to try one of our tune tunes just send an email to [email protected] with your current modification list and I'd be glad to have Luis send you a new tune (even if in a higher support level now) to see your thoughts and possibly change your mind, as this is definitely not the norm for our tunes.

It's based on your modifications as some extended modifications require a small upcharge.

First I would like to say, I'm only conveying my experience, not talking c r a p. Lee has done a ton for this platform and I'm not trying to take anything away from what he's done. I appreciate his quick responses and willingness to help. Heck, just having a place for us to discuss our experiences (good, bad or ugly), is proof that he's going the extra mile.

With that being said, I had the exact same experience as @ridered74, I guess our cars are twinsies!

The only difference is I didn't go run an 11.75 after, mostly because I'm too stubborn to pull out the seats and whatnot, but almost verbatim this part:

The shifting really concerned me, between it sounding like a new driver slipping the clutch, and a few really hard shifts when trying to pass someone... I switched back to GH and all is good, it pulls really hard, holds boost fine and shifts buttery smooth.

I do have hot pipes on the way, so maybe I'll give it another try after I get those on, but I'm not sure why I can hold 17psi on my GH tune but not the Ortiz tune.

Does a boost leak really care who tunes the car?
