Hey there! The '94 needs some new brakes in the rear, I'm trying to preform a stock restoration on her and I'm not sure what kind of brakes to use. Looking on Ford's website, they list an organic pad for that, doesn't specify if that's the same as OE or not. Meanwhile at Advance, our catalog lists semi-metallic as OE, so I'm not sure who to trust.

F8DZ-2200-AA, relatively cheap on eBay. Same as regular Taurus. They are Bendix CQ. You don't want to install 30 year old asbestos dust pads.

Okay, now I need pads for the front. Once again, I can't find if they were metallic or ceramic.

I mean yeah, asbestos free. Can you even buy Asbestos anymore?
No, you can't. Asbestos pads have been gone since the 70s. Taurus platform never had them.

Even restoring the car to stock, it isn't worth using the poor stock brake pads! Going with something like Hawk HPS would be an improvement!

Ford didn't put good brake pads on the SHO until the 2013+ PP pads.

1994 Service Manual:
SPECIFICATIONS: Brake Lining and Rotor Dimensions
Lining Material (OE): AK-NS171-HFF
Lining Material (service): JB-FA002-FF
Part No ***.xx 2018 - Shoe and Lining Assy

or 1993: Lining Material: B x D7800E ABEX 91646-Q B Non-SHO, Police

The exact answer of lining material above is useless to you. It is edge code from the lining manufacturer that the brake pad OEM gets their materials from.

You want to know more about friction material AK NS171H FF? It's made by Akebono Brake Industry Co, Ltd.

GGWIYY1

The JB FA FF brake material is Japan Brake Industrial Co, Ltd.

Ford put whatever the supplier had cheap in the car. Here you can see the same part # made in 2000 is different than made in 2003:
QupqmgW

110303: Abex 60x1 (x=unreadable) EE LS pads (edge code EE identify the cold and hot coefficient of friction)
HheJKAj

There's new regulations on pads also, 2021 a requirement for lower copper and others, 2015 Washington state put a 3-leaf design, each colored leaf shows compliance level, etc.

Are you really going to put on the original plastic sway bar end links that freeze up and back out, when Ford has multiple service advisories and new part numbers to fix their problems? Just get new pads and be safe and healthy.

Maybe his question is more answered by should he get organic, semi-metallic, metallic or ceramic? I don't know the answer but semi-metallic or better?? And the edge letters are key. EE, FF, GG. I'm sure google outlines those well?
