Hi all. I came to my SHO after aging out of a turbo Subaru. My SHO is at the dealer today for a couple of things, but they found a leaky water pump that it seems they are replacing. On my Subaru 2.5t, the water pump was no biggie, just hanging out there waiting for replacement. But, I see on an SHO, it's internal, timing chain driven. That can't be good.

This is warranty work, but I am curious how much replacing the water pump costs on the 3.5 Ecoboost?

Prices are all over the map but it is very expensive. I've seen numbers like Dan's above and higher posted in threads.

How bad is a pump install? Drop the engine or is there enough room on the side with the wheel off and all? I switched my new engine over to the yellow coolant. Ford insists it will protect the water pump from corrosion and make it last longer.

I've actually never seen yellow coolant. I'll be using whatever the Ford dealership puts in after the pump replacement.

They can do it with the engine still in the car.

Nice. Ive been asking for their mileage when these threads come up so i can see what the average lifespan is on them before they start leaking. I may just do mine as preventative myself at the 70k mark, probably 15 years from now lol

It seems that they start failing at 60K from what I see. Anything after 60K is a shot in the dark.

I fully intend to be pro-active and have this job done at 80k miles. If the pump lets go, it can turn a 1400 dollar job into a far more expensive one.

Ford is a big company with big company lawyers. Fighting that is an uphill battle from the get-go.

Yeah we know. A bunch of the V8 SHO owners here went after Ford years ago. Same thing over and over.

I don’t want to “like” this because it’s ********, you guys with the Yamaha V8 have an incredible engine with absolute shit quality control throughout the rest of the vehicle. It’s really too bad the blue oval didn’t back you guys and make it right.
