2015 SHO Water Pump

I don’t want to “like” this because it’s ********, you guys with the Yamaha V8 have an incredible engine with absolute shit quality control throughout the rest of the vehicle. It’s really too bad the blue oval didn’t back you guys and make it right.

It was really victim of the times. All the transverse v8s of its time had horrible quality control. Northstar as a good example, same as yamaha v8. Fun and plenty of power but when the problems start to sho, oh you'll know it. Funny how all the transverse v8s in that time had engineering failures....

The funny part is, that v8 car I had was the most reliable SHO I ever owned. I dumped it for a bad tranny around 2ook and the motor was still really strong.

The water pump on my 2013 went last month at 102K miles. I think they said it would have been in the $1500 -$1700 range. Fortunately I had the Ford Premium Care ESP, thanks to advice from yooze guys!, so only cost $100, plus $100 for the timing chain since they had everything apart, I was only charged for the part, no labor.

So, in addition to the water pump, is replacing the timing change and cam phasers (apparently devices that help time the camshafts for vvt) a big deal?

A big deal as far as cost, improved reliability, or DIY complexity? If I could afford it at the same time depending on mileage I would do it. DIY is a different set of variables (skill, time, experience, etc)

A big deal as in how much work is it?

It's being done by the dealership, so no worries there. I don't wrench any more, not even plugs: the back plugs on this sideways v6 look tough to access, for example.

Went through this a little while back... bought the parts from the dealer at dealer wholesale price... 283.00... pump and timing chains and tensioners. Do it all at the same time. It CAN be done without removing the motor if someone has the right tools. Mine was done for 640.00 labor. The dealer quoted me 2300.00 here in Indy.

Six weeks for the dealer to replace the timing belt and phasers. Apparently, backorder. My kid's Accord is solid as a rock, though, and I'm saving a ton on gas.

Dragging up old thread instead of starting a new one. One part of me is just astonished so I'm ******** but the other part of me is asking those of you near Indy for dealer recommendations (Billy VK). My car is 2012 PP with 130K
I called local dealer just south of Indy to get quote on replacement of water pump and timing chain. They quoted me $5300 and my jaw dropped. I was expecting $1500-$2300 or so. Service desk said 15 book hours at $165/hr and over $2k in parts. The numbers I've been seeing online are more like 10-11 book hours and $500ish in parts + antifreeze.

At those prices I might proactively get it done since I got a pretty good deal on the car and other than this issue they seem solid (I don't plan to beat on it too hard and PTU is being serviced regularly). I've got a call in to an independent shop and will probably call more.

Easy job to do yourself if you have the mechanical skills. Just sucks that the engine is sideways. Replace chains also. Lots of room through wheel well. Or just drop the engine on the frame and then its even easier

Hey Caseymou, I'm with the part of you that is ********! I think you definitely should shop around. When my water pump went 2 years ago, the dealer said since they were in there, there would be no additional labor to replace the chain too. I pulled my repair order for the water pump and it lists 16 parts which included 5 gaskets, 3 bolts etc. The cost of the timing chain was only $100. Granted this was 2 years ago but still, $5300 sounds for both excessive. Good luck with it

I've thought about that. My skills are medocre and patience is getting less and less every year. I just don't want to screw anything up. God forbid getting into it a 2nd time. Also, I don't have a lift so through the wheel well it would be. In my younger days I would probably just go for it but I'm almost to the point where I prefer to pay someone else unless I have high confidence in the work. I wouldnt let ford touch it either. Thats way too much for a quote. Id look around at smaller shops. Its an easy job. If they have a lift then its easier. Buy the part yourself to save on cost also. Use tasca. Im sure ford charging for the part is also alot of the cost.

Last i had my car in at ford. They had a note on the work saying the diaphragms on the recirc valves were bad and needed new recirc valves. Funny thing is my car dont even have them installed on the custom intake i run. Clueless techs. But thats the majority of my generation i guess

You can watch mexican show you how to do it. 3.5l duratec i think but mostly same same. Seaching ive found a few vids

I've had 3 quotes so far. $5300 from Dealership (I don't think they know what they were quoting). #1 independent shop rough estimate $2200, #2 independent shop $1600 labor only I provide parts (this one has done several 3.5 EB).

The dealership price is about $2k too high, for a dealership. About the only thing that makes it worth having the dealership do it is the warranty after it's done. I think they gave me a 2 year or 36k mile warranty on the job.

Edited. My mind is kind of off right now. Dealing with my Mom's health issues. Sorry.

If it isn't under warranty any quality shop with experience with 3.5 ecoboost should be able to do it. Preferably a sideways 3.5. difference in room to work
