Transmission alternatives for 1992 sho

I was told that a 2002 focus SVT transmission would fit the 3.0 Yamaha engine. Can anyone confirm this?

Haven't heard of it. Most things are possible. Don't have dimensions and bell housong bolt patternsfor Getrag MT285

Anything can fit if one takes the time to put in the work....I have heard there was a possibility of the Getrag MT285 matching up but nothing confirmed...regardless of what you use if its not stock you are looking at custom axles and most likely an adapter being made to fit trans to block, then you have to make sure your TOB spacing is correct and the stroke is adequate to properly use the clutch/PP....it is work but anything is possible if you arent afraid to put in the work.

That Getrag would be a very nice box, as it's what I call a true 6-speed, not a 4-speed with two overdrives.

It may have the torque capacity to handle a stock SHO, dunno if it's beefy enough for a modded SHO.

Scott Krietemeyer adapted a Mazda 6 tranny in his V8 SHO. That worked well, and has better parts availability.

As was said, any Fwd MTX could be made to fit with enough money and patience.

What was the transmission for the Mondeo they used to sell in europe? Was that a Getrag?

I had the Getrag in my 03 Focus SVT (RIP). But it was a 2770# car, with torque under 200lb/ft.

IMO, the only type of FWD tranny to adapt is one that (1) has parts available and (2) has an LSD available. I'm thinking something from Volvo.

Or do something like a Honda trans, that is cheap, readily available,, and can be swapped easily, like the Honda guys do. Anything with better gearing than the SHO MTX is better.

All European models would have the Getrag....Domestic models will have the MTX75 unless they are the "performance" model in which they would have the Getrag......The Getrag transmissions are bad boys!! they are damn near bullit proof and can hold a crap ton of Hp.

i was looking into the MTX75 and the Getrag but realistically my car is too far along to stop and go back to the beginning and start all over because everything would have to be modified from engine bay, subframe, to controls routings and possibly even exhaust....maybe next time around if there is another SHO build in my future.

Getrags are great (although some newer models are having issues) but I am thinking along the same lines as Ron. Alot of these are designed within a certain optimal range and the focus is much lighter and less torque. Doesn't mean it won't work, but I would have to dig and get info from people who have pushed these pretty far to get some confidence.

The only other FWD manual trans that will bolt to the V6 SHO engine is the 5 speed from a 3.0 Probe. Even then you would need to change the shifter and likely have custom axles made at the very least. Anything else will require an adapter plate to bolt to the engine.

After talking to Scott after he put the Mazda trans in his Gen 3, the axle part is one of the easiest. He got them welded. One failed rather soon, but that was in 2007. After he got it redone at a truck shop, AFAIK the car is still running with those axles.
