It may be.

I mean shit, I ain't get'n any younger, and 2024 will mark 30 years in my profession.

Not saying I'll pull the pin then, but it's looming.

If you decide to retire, you can get a winter home here in AZ and come and moonlight as a scumbag apprehension specialist with me.

I enjoyed watching the various iterations of Dwayne Chapman's show(s) over the years. I've always enjoyed his approach. Tough when needed to be, but quick to bestow "fatherly" sage advice to those he interacted with. Always have kept that approach in mind during my own hours on duty and dealing with the general public.

@SM105K that might be an entertaining opportunity for sure. So many decisions.

Returning back to the topic of this thread, I was/am happy to have recv'd the news I did from the builder yesterday.

I'm really hoping to get the SHO out of my garage, and over to his facility to begin the next assembly steps and install.

Between impending vaccine's for the COVID-19, along with completing the next stages for the SHO, hopefully 2021 will be a good year. For me and for all.

Cheers

02/06/2021......

Well my build thread's been very quiet if any of you have noticed.

Why? Well wasn't really much for me to post.

After the motor was completed (back in October 2020) I've been spending the better part of 4 months now, trying to get some answers, any answers out of / from my long time mechanic friend regarding the transmission.

After a myriad of excuses, and delay upon delay he finally returned my OEM transmission to me on 01/22/2021.

Despite what I had been told previously, and then re-assured that work was performed on it, I have since confirmed that the transmission was never once touched, opened, inspected, or even worked on this entire time that he has had it in his possession. Which counting back now, was the better part of 20 months now. Ugh.

I'm really at a loss. I've been with him now for 18+ years and he has witnessed all 3 of my kids not only grow up, but has been instrumental in maintaining our fleet of cars during that entire time frame.

Customarily one would be really like super IDK..... ****** off at this, right? But I find myself more so feeling sorry for him. 2020 was not kind to him. It would not be appropriate for me to expound, or go into great detail. Not really for public consumption. Suffice to say, he is not well and appears to be struggling through numerous personal and business issues as a result. I wish him well and have left the door open to assisting him, if I even can.

That said and moving along, in the same breath, I must completely acknowledge and thank Max Power for immediately stepping into his place and offering to complete the SHO project. Continued custom fabrication work, final assembly, and even arranging for tuning when that time comes. They continue to impress me repeatedly and I can't thank them enough.

Max Power has communicated with an entirely new, and separate trans vendor, one that he personally vouched for, and spoke very highly of to take up this aspect of the project and run with it.

That new trans vendor has picked up my SHO transmission on 01/29/2021 and has already gone to town on it.

Here are some pictures of how the transmission appeared, when it was dropped off by the mechanic, to Max Power. Just ugly to see. I have no idea what happened during that entire time. In the next post, I'll place pictures of the trans disassembled.......4253692164265e5a67e75e23c68a859e30b2721f39e7dc053630b50c1e2dab165f2367551f3069a0de20dbc9e641fbc991e9feeb9e3035a996d1a5b46f79541eC2ccb39bfd888b1ed369346cf0ca63ba86bbedad83619d4af34797516c9d086e17dbdd5ed9a640be0ea1e20fe73777ff83c4defb334fdbe3ff0a39a8c878b107

02/06/2021 (continued part 2)......

Yesterday, 01/05/2021, I received these pictures from Max Power. They were sent to him by the new trans vendor.

I was told my trans definitely showed some signs of wear, but he said for the abuse it was put through, that it was not really that bad at all. Especially for what it was put through.

The main clutches looked like they're burnt. 2nd gear looked worn. It was also mentioned that convertor lockup material was found in the trans as well. So the OEM Torque Convertor was likely showing signs of failure also. But again, overall, not bad all things considered. I was told that my extreme regimen / maintenance proved beneficial in it lasting as long as it did.

So thus far, the solenoid pack assembly has been replaced. All pistons, filter, speed sensors, etc. replaced. Essentially acomplete overhaul kit has been performed thus far.

I'll be entertaining suggestions on how to proceed as far as any upgrades, or strengthening what can be strengthened as the vendor does more digging and reports back accordingly.

But that's pretty much it for now. I am elated to be back on track, again thanks entirely to Max Power. I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge wanting to throw in the towel and just be done with this crap. But I leaned on a close friend and fellow SHO owner for guidance, and an objective look at the situation overall and that helped me tremendously in getting my excitement about this project renewed and reenergized.

I hope to provide more regular updates in the near future. Thank you for everyone's continued support and understanding. As well as putting up with the long reads.

Whew!

Sorry to hear about the guy not working out. I guess one hiccup in an otherwise spotless record over 18 years is forgivable. I can’t wait to see all these built SHO’***** the streets this year!

Awesome teardown. Not sure if you've followed my other post on attempting to get Raybestos on board for getting some of their GPZ friction clutches to market. Feel free to add your voice, as well as credibility, to them. They would benefit high HP builds greatly. It appears they may actually be entertaining the idea and we can use every credible high HP build to try and push it forward.

But other things I'd consider while you have it apart...cryo and of course WPC treatment of the parts that would benefit most from it. And lastly, I've been hoping someone who's torn down the trans can get a look at that open-diff that's in it and see if there is anything on the market that could possibly fit and change to a limited slip....that would be another huge leap in getting power to the ground.

Anyway, glad you're back on track. Looking forward to seeing the final product.

@Ecoboost_xsport..... I steered away from the forums as I and my entire family caught the COVID-19 back in November. Hit my wife and I pretty hard, particularly as she has auto immune disorders. Everyone's good now, and being a family of mostly first responders (minus youngest adult child) we've all been vaccinated.

Also, the holidays kept us busy, as did me trying to reacquire my trans was an effort in and of itself. All that combined with me really having nothing to contribute, kept my continued distance away from the boards.

I'll take a gander though, and pass it along as needed. Thanks for the kind words and heads up.

Damn Mike sorry to hear that. I was confused/suspicious about the guy's heavy blaming Whitmer for delays, considering automotive repairs have been deemed essential since day 1 and shops never once got shut down AFAIK. Oh well, full steam ahead!

WOW! What an incredibly strange turn of events.

I just learned that my long time mechanic friend passed away yesterday, 02/07/21.

I don't have any details, but what a loss.

Condolences to his surviving family. Particularly his young children. As well as to his coworkers, his employees, friends, etc.

This was the transmission guy?
He was my long time mechanic friend.

Have been a customer of his for 18yrs. He saw my kids grow up, and I saw the birth of his children as well.

He was, up until recently, the only vendor who has been with my SHO since it's purchase (was with me before then too) and was instrumental in assisting me not only with the SHO, but maintaining my entire fleet of cars during that entire time frame.

****, even Kirk came out and met him back in mid/late 2010 when bringing his 1st to market cat back exhaust and DP's for the platform, along with his (NESHO's) tune for the GEN4 platform.

Matt was with me every step of the way as my SHO continued its various iterations over the years. Only to recently hand me off to/and strongly recommend my current engine builder (that being yet another Matt, Matt P. over @ Max Power Automotive).

Despite the recent snafu with my transmission (which as I stated, I am not, nor ever was mad at him) Matt was above and beyond exemplary. I chalk up the recent trans snafu as to him not really being himself, or in his right frame of mind.

He was battling a lot of issues simultaneously. Personal and business wise. Again, not for public consumption. But I truly find myself at a loss. As I do for so many others that knew him. He was super talented and quite genuine/down to earth.
