Picked up my giant box of gaskets, chains, water pump, oil pump, etc etc today lol. Only things I absolutely needed sooner than later are on back order which are the girdle bolts but I ordered them on tasca so should be here maybe next week hopefully lol

Continued success with your own rebuild project.

This COVID-19 crap has long overstayed its welcome.

Hoping a vaccine becomes available soon, so the world can get back to normal.

So, so tired of waiting for parts to be delivered/supplied/made available etc.

My issue isn't exactly delayed parts but machine shop overload! EVERYBODY having their projects revamped lol.

Bad news! The PTU IS SHOT! The bearing for the main gear is shot! And from their words the amount of torque I was making was tweaking the gears and self machined the case! Was barely holding on! IMG 20200827 171816

Good thing you decided to pull it with this rebuild otherwise you would have taken it out and then that would have let go most definitely

Which, in all likelihood would've resulted in additional unexpected/unintended destruction of other areas of the car once back on the road again.

I agree, good thing it was caught ahead of time.

Picking up my pp ptu with drain plug tomorrow then I can slap the axle back in and probably put the torque converter back in. Rotating assembly complete now that I got the appropriate crank pulley bolt so hopefully that's balanced soon. Waiting on some bolts for the mains that should be here this week then it's solely machine shop stuff to be done. Well that and the intake/exhaust manifold porting and turbine housing porting but that's no rush at this point.

@Jordan_R - Just to ask, were you not a PP to begin with? If not, what are you going to do about the rear diff?

Yup, I knew it was backward compatible! I was wondering when somebody was going to try it. You going to tie it into the coolant system like OEM or going to design your own system with a heat exchanger?
Honestly, don't think I'm going to touch it. Just change fluid every oil change. Thought about routing it in line with my trans cooling though lol

Ah, ok, if you're not using it, that cooler housing on the side is removable. There's nothing underneath but the side of the case.

But if you were going to convert it or add in your own cooler, all you'd need to start with is this OEM part.

You could trim it and put AN fittings kn the ends to make it fit whatever you wanted....but you'd also need some sort of pump to circulate it.

Why I was thinking using the trans to cool it could be a smart method. If I were to tie it into my trucool trans cooler I'm going to put in the car I would just have to run the lines to and from

Thinking about it more I'm going to try the trans cooler idea. Trans fluid out to cooler, cooled fluid to ptu and then back to trans. Can estimate the ptu temperature with the trans temp pid. Certainly can't hurt to try it out. The trucool cooler I have is pretty big so I figure I'll keep up just fine
