I'm needing to buy another car now that my Volvo S-80 is totaled. I only want the PP package and I've read that the only way to tell is if it doesn't have a spare just an air pump and the steering wheel will have a different material like suede on part of it. There isn't anything in the VIN that tells you it's a PP? What's the best way to search for one online?

Was 2013 when Ford switched to a better ECM for building one with performance parts and a tune? Or was there another year that they changed it? I want the best year for building and tuning one. Also, are there certain years that are better in regards to the stock ECM and drivetrain: that first, don't have inherent issues from the factory and secondly hold up better when building them to a pretty high level of HP/TQ?

I'm bummed about my car being totaled, but I was going to get a SHO PP after I sold it. I guess now is the time. I spent ~$5k in performance parts and a tune on it:(:shakehead: I may be interested in purchasing one that has already been built if it has a good reputation and built correctly. So if you know of any for sale, please send me the link in a private message.

Thanks SHO Forum Bros,

Mike

Ok...the PP version won't have sensors on the sides of the front bumper, as it doesn't have adaptive cruise control.

Some non PPs will have the different steering wheel, and no spare.

The PP will have an extra pipe visible through the front grille for the PTU oil cooler.

Last...the non PP can't have traction control deactivated. The PP version has a button on the center console, just above the shifter, for turning off traction control.

Keep in mind that mod for mod the Non-PP is supposed to be faster due to gearing. The PP does have some additional cooling equipment, but the interior and parking equipment can come on both PP and Non-PP. If you want front sensors, forward collision, sunroof etc, I believe that is the 401a package and is available for both types. Aside from those differences, I would mainly focus on getting one that is 13+ vs the earlier models.

The PP gets a weird rep because its labeled as a performance package when it should actually be more of a reliability/towing/extended city driving package.

The nonPP is quicker in every way and has additional features you can't get on the PP such as adaptive cruise and assisted parking.

2013+ has better support in tuning and mods.

At the end of the day PP is probably more reliable but nonPP has daily driver comforts that some prefer.
If you gotta be the fastest, nonPP is faster slightly due to gear ratio.
Also be aware that there is currently fairly hard limits to the mods available and the aftermarket.

I have a non pp and I deactivate the traction control in the driver assist settings.

But its never completely off.

Go to a parking lot at night, accelerate to 40 mph, and start turning into an increasingly tight circle, maintaining throttle. It'll pull power.

Fortunately for us....usually most cars are faster with traction control on.

Depends on what you're doing.

For instance, if I wanted to hit a nice "S" curved...a high-speed left followed by a right...with stiffer springs and a good set of tires...the outside rear wheel will lift, losing traction. In a non PP car, that means zero throttle till that wheel touches down again.

These cars aren't WRX's or EVO, maybe fat versions at best, but they aren't really meant for high speed anything. Straight is really all we can do and all we should do, however if someone out there is willing to take the plunge into suspension for a autocross SHO, I'll cheer for them either way. I'm a fan of breaking the mold, but highspeed handling really isn't in the cards for these cars right now.

Make it happen. I want to see lap times comparing both. I'd wager the same or nonPP is faster by hundredths. Even professional drivers say traction control and stability control is best left on in almost all situations.

At the end of the day, I leave my truck in normal mode except for launches because it gets me in the zone.

All things being equal, I bet the PP SHO is faster in the autocross. It has better gearing down low.

Also the whole PP vs Non PP thing in the quarter is only a couple tenths. That is a driver's race all day. Now if it was .5 seconds, it maybe something to write home about.

99% of the time, traction control is, but not all traction control is equal.

I can simply accelerate to 35 mph, and saw the wheel left right left, to warm up the tires, and it pulls power. Way too aggressive, imo.

Granted, I'm not looking to turn this car into an autocross car...I would like to compare it more to European touring cars. M5, Audi S6, the like. Cars that are comfy, but also performance oriented.

This car COULD be that. But the traction control needs to be dialed back.

nah broski audi s-series is 88x the comfort and way better handling and comfort. And did you really mention the m5? Hmmm.
In my opinion, the SHO is a lower budget version of these cars but not comparable.

The SHO is for family cruises on a budget and the occasional brawl at the light. If you are going past that
....gopro it, I want to see the carnage lol.

I disagree. Never driven an M5, but I test drove the crap out of a V8 Audi S8, and frankly, I was underwhelmed.

The SHO more than matched it with creature comforts, is faster, and now handles just as well.

I just want her to be all she can be, for what she is. And IMO, what she is, is a car that COULD be a match for its European cousins.

Just to make sure I'm not confused.

One of us is talking about a FULL-TIME AWD WITH REAR BIAS 605HP 3.3SECOND 0-60, 11.6 1/4 MILE, 190MPH, CERAMIC BRAKES, CONFIGURABLE DASH, INFRARED NIGHT VISION, just to say a little bit......4door sedan.

And what was the other one saying?
