Hi all,

I am getting my first SHO, a metallic black, fourth-gen 2015, shortly. It will be my daily driver.

No, it doesn't have the Performance Package; price was an issue, and Axle 2A was hard to find hereabouts in any event. Still, it's nicely equipped, pretty sharp, and gets out of its own way quite nicely (as you all no-doubt know). Although I already reviewed Livernois offerings, I promised the family no modding this time -- I am moving from a somewhat modded WRX wagon (been driving WRX wagons since '02).

I have had a Taurus before. Had a red non-SHO 1992 Taurus for half the 90s 'til its second transmission gave out. Anyway, I've been looking for a used SHO for a while now, and here I am.

I look forward to engaging with my new ride and being an occasional contributor in the forums. I hope it's okay that I say, "S.H.O." and not "show." ;)

Cheers,

Sean

Welcome. Stay away from Livernois.

A tune on these really wake them up...also they get better gas mileage as well.

Then why stay away from Livernois? lol

I should have prefaced with a proper tune. Livernois is canned junk with problems. There are numerous threads on here with people with fuel pressure and shifting problems.

A proper tune (I suggest AJPTurbo or Gearhead) will always outperform a LMS tune and they both are safer and make more power. The Gearhead Auto Octane tune is probably the best for daily driving.

I saw gearhead. The tunes were $150 but it was unclear how the tune was applied to the SHO. Similarly, from what I read, auto octane sounded very cool but wasn't available for SHOs.

Auto Octane is available for the SHO through Gearhead.

You need to buy a SCT device and the AO tune. I would contact at Matt from Gearhead for specifics.

Gotcha. I'd need an SCT. That wasn't really clear. Anyway, I'll keep it in mind as I remember I promised not to mod .... ;) Thanks! Sean

You aren't modding, you are just "unlocking" factory performance.

Congrats again. Looks great and clean! Good luck with the CT Staties. I used to do the NYC/Boston drive often and twice nabbed by them, before i got my SHO.

Nice looking ride. Now unlock the factory performance!

Well, so, won't that void my warranty?

I'm not sure how it works on a SHO. On my WRX, I reflashed the ECU with a map and the dealer could count the number of times the ECU had been flashed, so even if I flashed it back, the dealer would know.

Also, is the PTU and transmission on the SHO strong enough for more power? There are a couple of posts in these forums related to blown transmissions. ;)

Cheers,

Sean

PTU fluid gets gummed up and those can fail. A few transmission failures. Warranty is a crapshoot with mods. Depends on people at the shop and maybe nature of failure. Can it void warranty? sure. Will it? maybe. You have to choose your level of comfort with that.
