Sync update

Hello All
I have a 2014 SHO non PP with the Sync system that has all of the bells and whistles. That being said I have noticed on the Ford Website that you can download software to update the Ford Sync software. Has anybody done this and if so any advice on how upload the software without crashing the system?

for a 2014 model you download the software to a USB thumbdrive and load it in that way. Do you know what version of MFT Sync 2 you currently have?

Is there anything wrong with the system now? Bugs? Something not working? Are you looking for a new feature in a later version?

If none of the above, leave it alone. I know the stability got better in later versions, but if you don't have any problems now, don't ask for any.

The reason I'm saying this is, some Sync versions introduced bugs, or even removed features - like the infamous Bluetooth current song display on the right side display going away.

I had a 2013 with Sync 2, and I upgraded it once or twice, mostly because it was unstable in the beginning. I think I lost that Bluetooth song title display thing during one of them...

Thank you,good advice as there is nothing wrong except for the backup camera working sometimes and then not, with odd views at times.

It took me 3 tries before I found the right kind of flash that could be formatted to "exFAT" then it seemed to be taking forever (e.g. 2 hours). I called the sync 800 number a few times and they were pretty responsive and helpful. I didn't notice any changes afterwards. The GPS still can't find my address though, because the street is only 2 years old. It is not a problem unique to SYNC from what I've been told. Good luck though.

The backup camera is know to do funky things as it dies. Like showing you an upside down picture.

I'm a computer programmer first, and IT guy second, and I have no idea how any failure mode would cause the picture to flip upside down...

You need to buy an updated map SD card.

You need to buy an updated map SD card.

Take this with a grain of salt. SM105Ks advice is sound, but the company that makes those updates may not have your road on their map. A company called HERE makes fords maps. You can go to their website and I believe see if your road is present. If not, you can creat an account and edit the map. If it's not there, it wont be on the latest s.d. card. Keep in mind those maps are still probably out of date due to the time it takes to make that map.

Note, you can go to HERE's website for gen 2 and 3 system to check for map updates. It will jump you to fords website. I cant recall the website cor ford off the top of my head.


As for the SYNC updates from the Ford website, this will only update the Customer Interface Protocol (CIP) of the APIM and not the VIP (Vehicle Interface Protocol) side. How much that will afect system performance I cannot say. The VIP side has to be updated with a scan tool.

Gen 2 the U.S.B. drive has to be formatted to FAT32 (exFAT for gen 3).

If you shoot me your vin I can see what software updates are available.

Have you removed the SD car in your center console to see what number it is?

To be honest, even with my Nav unlocked, I rarely use it. I use Waze and google maps most of the time.

This is a much cheaper way to pull it off, using the AV connections in the armrest. I presume you might be able to still use the rest of the stereo, such as the phone and climate controls and whatnot.

A11 is the 2020 version, but Ford wants $159, Ebay will run you $79. The A10 can be had for $25. I get free lifetime updates for my Garmin, so I will stick with my A4 chip.
