pulled it out from the car - 400 grit sand job- 3 light coats of semi black - heat gun between coats .

What's what I did. Well one of my lights has about 5 coats because it developed a bubble so I sanded the paint a couple times until I was happy with.
I also put a coat of wax on each of mine. First 2, after I installed on the car. The 2nd 2 while they were off the car (much easier).
If you use duct tape to yank most of the fake chrome off it'll cut your sanding time in half.

a bit of moisture in both tail lights - was there before me - anyways how do you remove the trunk lid lights? does the horizontal trim have to come off first ? blackened the lh outer just now - so both lid ones need it .

I didn't remove the middle trim. I just took a pair of needle nose pliers and pushed the far outter clip through (trim clip). Then take off the 2 plastic pieces securing the light. To remove it, you'll need to slide it towards the inner trim to pop it loose. Then just pull it out.

My old GTP used to develop leaks in the taillights. I used a clear silicone around plastic seams. Sometimes it worked and sometimes not. I mean these things went from getting misty droplets inside to an inch of water trapped on the inside. Had to get new housing for the bad leak one. Couldn't get it to seal right. Manufacture or material defect.

wife's 06 escape has one headlight like that - I drilled a couple small holes in the corners - really helped - not prepared to do same on my "baby" . might try the heat gun as viewed on you tube vids's.

hi josh - pressed in on the zontal tap and moved the trim away from lid . nothing snapped whew ! - yes sir ! one's out - all downhill now easy prying on the outer wrap around edges . factory goop not your friend at all. moved it into my garage beside my two mustangs - wow! sits like a truck - foot taller foot longer - glad it has fold in mirrors .

Look Ma' no more flakey chrome! - Ford would have been better off with black surround instead of the cheapo chrome - even on the "limited" it would look factory. have rattle can will travel

I just love how pretty much every thread on this forum veers off course into some random topic... I'll be sitting there, get a notification that someone has posted about the imposter SHO and instead, we're talking about chrome deletion and how to remove water from taillights and headlights.
