I have heard that a couple times too. It’s unfortunate too because the sound is actually decent outside the car.

To each his own. For me its just part of having an exhaust upgrade....first and foremost for performance. Sound difference is inevitable. Like the torque mounts...its for performance...does have some slight vibrations...but again what do we expect? So I easily live with inherited noises

I absolutely love the difference in feel the torque mounts make as well as sound inside. It takes the modern lifelessness away and makes it feel like you’re actually driving a car.

Exhaust drone though, not enjoyable for daily use. Like you said though, to each his own. The line between performance and daily drivability is all about personal tolerance.

I have an upgraded exhaust..and dare I say....it is quieter than stock?

Drone is pretty common with aftermarket exhausts. Some tuning, and the addition of a helmholtz resonator will fix that. Yeah, space is tight, but it is not impossible.

With a turbo engine you can have quiet and performance. It definitely does not need to sound like that.

You would hate how loud mine is

It’s never been the volume I’m opposed to, it’s the V6 sound. I soooo wish it could sound always like it does with a cold start just louder. I’m a old school V8 guy. Never appreciated the two stroke leaf blower ricey exhaust note and unfortunately that’s what our cars sound like when unleashed. I fully appreciate wide open exhaust for track use but I drive my SHO everyday, and a lot, so I just can’t bring myself to let my car sound like a 20 year olds lancer. Believe me, I’ve searched and listened to every combination out there for volume without drone or weak V6 sound but have yet to come across anything. I’m still looking though, unfortunately it’s a turbo V6 and you just can’t change that.

I’m hoping an X pipe in place of the third cat and single absorption resonators (glass packs) on each pipe after will give me what I’m looking for.
Time will tell.

The best mine has sounded so far was when I still had my 3rd cat. I've wondered what it might sound like with some resonators .....wish I could do sound tests with some before I get them welded in....

View media item 585I had them installed for a week or so when I got them but the drone was unbearable and just not reasonable as a DD
Thanks for posting. Pretty much convinces me not to mod my exhaust. My other car is a Mustang 5.0 GT, so my ears will always be looking for the V-8 rumble, which clearly isn't going to happen from a V-6. Better to stay in stealth mode (SHO's are good at that!) than draw unwanted attention.

now you have me rethinking the MRT axleback lol. Was about to pull the trigger since it's the only decent sounding one...

I have the Corsa exhaust and it was good before the downpipes and turbo upgrades. No drone, was a bit louder than stock.

After the Catted EPP downpipes and turbo upgrades it sounds amazing.. I have had people ask me what the **** is in my car. It just sounds meaty and nasty especially at startup even cold or warm.

I think the bigger turbos allow more noise from the motor through...

Love it. And still no drone at all.

Here is a run at the track and I need to nab a cold start.
