powertrain till 5/60. Then you can buy the Ford Protect warranty. Aftermarket will cover also in many cases, but you should read the fine print closely, as always.

the warranty itself can be purchased online from numerous reputable Ford dealers. Lombard is not the lowest priced, but has a stellar reputation. Flood Ford if you want the lowest. Ziegler and Anderson Koch are 2 more.

I'm starting to get letters from Ford Protect about extending the warranty. Is this an actual Ford warranty or is it an aftermarket? Also, if this is actual Ford, is there any advantage or disadvantage to buying this direct verses from a dealer?

I've never heard of them not covering a PTU under ESP on a stock car. Ziegler is great and will send you a coupon code that actually beats Flood by a few dollars if you email them and mention a price match. We have bought 5 different ESPs from Ziegler and traded 2 cars before they were up. On each case, they sent us a refund check within a week and gave no hassle.

You typed my question tonight before I even asked it.I f you don't mind me asking how much was the warranty? I want to buy an SHO but I'm nervous reading about all these huge money failures, it seems like luck of the draw some people have no problems and some people get a disaster. My DD is a Maxima which I've had for 14 years and no problems.

That’s dependent on variables such as how many miles on vehicle and how long do you want warranty to extend for. You can play around with a quote without getting VIN specific on a few sites, and then try the above dealer once you found car for final quote.
Overall this is a fairly well made vehicle so it all depends on how well the vehicle was kept up. I’d never purchase a vehicle without complete service history available from seller anyway.
Mine is a 2016 with 17k miles. Premium Care 6 year/60k $694.00. Those 6 years start when the vehicle was first put into service. So basically, 3 year/42k warranty

Forget about the warranty - there's actually a TSB on a lot of PTU's from Ford. Search on here for the thread - it states that if there's a propane-type smell or any oil leak what-so-ever, it gets replaced no question asked! I had my PTU replaced on my 2014 under this special notice to dealers. I actually called my utility company one day and they came out looking for a natural gas leak - I had a very strong odor of "propane / natural gas" smell. I gave the dealer a printout of this notice just so they knew I was informed and sure enough, brand new PTU.
I bought my 14 SHO when my lease was up from the Ford dealer. I bought the highest level of extended warranty which was about $60/month for 18 months to cover the entire car bumper-to-bumper for 5 years! It's plain English in the brochure they give you with the different tiers and what they cover.

I recently had the propane smell and called the dealer to make the appointment and was immediately asked if it was an AWD car. Guess they know what's up. Have to wait another week to get a loaner so we will see what happens then.

I wouldn't get an aftermarket warranty, only one backed by Ford directly. Aftermarket ones I've seen typically only cover up to a certain amount of $$ per hour (less than a dealer or competent shop will charge) and they have their own ideas about how much a repair should cost vs reality. They're a lot of time cheaper than a Ford backed warranty for a reason. You get what you pay for.
