I don't have many mods yet, just custom exhaust with the 3rd cat replaced with straight pipes, colder plugs, and drop in k&n and I think that one mod was done because u can hear my BOV big time, but just installed a custom unleashedtuning tune by Torrie and holy crap that car is a beast now! I feel like it added 50hp immediately. Those tunes are amazing I highly recommend him! He's very fast and great customer service too!

When you were prompted by the SCT device to turn the vehicle to "RUN" during the loading of the tune process, did you press the start button and hold it for a few seconds? I'm just curious because when I followed the directions step by step, it threw an error every single time and SCT had no clue what the fix was. I figured it out on my own, but am wondering if my car is a unicorn or if the instructions on the screen of the device are just incorrect.

That's weird, the only way I could get mine to work was my not pressing anything at all when it said to turn the car to the RUN position the second and third time. I had to wait about 7 seconds, and then it just took off on its own as tho I'd pressed the start button. Every single time I pressed the button, it caused an error.

I just tap the start never held it in for the 2-3 sec, I do think it takes off on its own sometimes. If I sit there for a few sec it seems to know what it needs to do.
Ford Gremlins maybe :)

They can tell it was tuned anyway. I wish it was that easy.
There is some debate as to hat the dealer can tell. Ford can tell but they typically don't get involved directly in warranty work unless there is a major failure with a expensive repair, have a turbo or PTU go and they shouldn't bother.

As far as the dealer what I have read points that they most likely cannot tell the car was tuned but if you do not let all the monitors reset before bringing it in they can see that.

Also don't forget about stickers, license plate frames, tuner in the glove box that might give you away.

I contacted my seller and the service department. They said they can check and the system holds the change in the cars computer. I have heard it really is up to your service guy if they want to bust chops and go after you. For 45K I'll wait till my warranty is up. I say this now. lol

Ahh, the warranty debate is back.

I fully understand a person not wanting to make a gamble of this nature. However, if you modify any part on the car (let's say computer tuning) and the wiper motor fails, the tune had/has zero connection to the wiper motor and is not at fault for it. If the tune isn't at fault, they then have to replace/repair it.

Yes, Ford will obviously have deeper pockets and a wider attorney staff, so it's still a gamble.

On the lighter side, I'll use my experience for example.

I've done massive amounts of both new and used car purchases from my local dealer, along with tons of service work. Saying my dealership and I have a good relationship, is a vast understatement.

I ordered all my goodies from Livernois and while having an off topic conversation with the service manager, he asked what I intended to do to my 2016 because my 2011 was in the shop after I had work done.

Anyways, he offered to me that if I had his lead tech install the parts I mentioned, he would honor my warranty unless I added an external fuel source (methanol/n2o) and caused a catastrophic failure.

That thread is on here somewhere, but I don't feel like finding the link.

To any means, it's worth being upfront with the service guys and possibly building a relationship with them.

Being without a tune on these cars, is a serious kick in the dick.

I have tuned/dynoed every car I have had and never given it a second thought. If the tune is done properly, it should be safe and nothing to worry about. My Mustang has had a 125 shot and a Vortech blower since new. Yes we hear stories about something happening but I don't want someone thinking they can go to town on a tune and be expecting their warranty to hold up. I'm just putting it out in the open. Would I tune it..**** yes but I don't leave anything alone anyway.

Agreed, but regarding being up front with the dealer I'd say that is more of an individual basis answer. Some dealership service departments are great others not so much. And some value repeat customers such as yourself and will go the extra mile and others want to charge you for blinker fluid.

Ford must have some terribly inconsistent training. My service tech said they have no way of knowing if the car has been tuned. Not that I care since mine is not under warranty. Still, I return it to stock when taking it in for service since they sometimes load updates that change the strategy code.

I can 100 percent guarantee they can tell if the car has been tuned and returned to stock. It really would depend if it was catostrophic failure warranty work. If you return the car to stock, the pcm would show it has been flashed. If they wanted to pursue they would send it out and have it investigated. Also, f you put it back to stock you have to run through a drive cycle. Not to easy if you have had a major failure. Trust me, I have two tuned cars and can't wait to get this SHO tuned, I'm just letting you know that they can tell as far as doing it...I'm going to.

Unless there is a catastrophic engine failure or something else makes them suspicious, why would they even bother to check? If done by a reputable tuner, catastrophic failures are extremely rare. Tunes improve these cars so much, there is no way I would wait for the warranty to expire but everyone has to make the right choice for himself.

For the past 2 weeks, I have been flashing my car with revised tunes. It has now been flashed 11 times. On Wednesday, I returned to stock and had the car in for some warranty work - related to a gauge cluster malfunction that had occurred prior to the tuning. Although they had their scan tool hooked to the OBD port and they had to do some reprogramming of the instrument cluster, the subject of reflashing or tuning was not mentioned.....presumably because they simply had no reason to investigate.

If I ever have the car towed in with a rod hanging out of the block and numbers written on the windows, the result might be different. :)
