Might want to let the dealer check it out. I have heard that the timing chain will start getting noisy on start up on some before letting go.

The 3.5 liter camshaft come in contact with the valves. There is no hudrolic lash adjuster so the valve train will make some noise.

Have not hear of the timing chain breaking. Stretching yes. This usually sets DTCs for vct/timing stuffs.

I was reading a post a while back where the car started making some noise on startup, possibly due to timing chain stretch, then the water pump failed and filled the engine with coolant. Wasn't a good outcome I guess. Maybe no correlation to the noise at startup, but better safe than sorry.

Omar, what year is your SHO? What engine oil & weight are you using, and what oil filter? Aftermarket oil filters tend to take a little longer to build oil pressure, so the usual recommendation is to use the OEM Motorcraft FL500S. The timing system is dependent on oil pressure to do its work, so having the right oil and having oil pressure quickly is important.

A coolant flush may also be a good idea especially if the SHO is over 5 years old.

Ford may attribute it as normal based on SSM 21575, posted by jmr061

OASIS MESSAGE :
SOME 2007-2010 MKZ/EDGE/MKX, 2008-2010 TAURUS, 2008-2009 SABLE/TAURUS X, 2009/2010 FLEX/MKS, 2010 MKT/FUSION EQUIPPED WITH A 3.5L V6 OR 3.7L V6 ENGINE MAY EXHIBIT A LIGHT TICKING NOISE AFTER A COLD START WHICH MAY LAST UNTIL ENGINEWARM UP. THE NOISE IS DUE TO THE COMBINATION OF LIGHT LOAD OPERATING CONDITIONS AND THE NORMAL CYLINDER HEAD AND VALVETRAIN CLEARANCES PRESENT IN A COLD ENGINE.THIS NOISE DOES NOT AFFECT PERFORMANCE OR LONG-TERM DURABILITY OF THE ENGINE.

I haven't done my first oil change yet, but isn't the oil filter upside down so it will not drain oil on shutoff? If so I wouldn't think there would ever be a possibility of low oil pressure due to a drained oil filter.

SHOdded , thanks for info there, mine is 2011 SHO 3.6 liter , oil is 5-20w motorcraft , Filter is motorcraft (I'm not quite detailed!).
I haven't checked the car , although friends say there's nothing sound harmful, although they still here it inside.
