Using this one

My question to others running one. Do the more expensive units like the OBDLINK MX units display more info?

This what I took before I got out of car1efcbed742c86f865a193c745b7f791a

Well the PIDs are pulled from the same bank, but your unit may not have access to the MSCANbus without modding. That's one difference. Another is the data rate. MX will be at least twice as fast, and handle many more PIDs at a time. I have no problem logging 60+ at a time for extended periods. The final thing is reliability. 3 year warranty on the MX. I got it used (6 mo+) and have been using 2.5 yrs now. Rarely disconnected from the OBD port. But it would be advisable to do so periodically. Allows it to "reset".

What fuel are you using with the Race Tune? Does it meet the minimum requirements of the tune?

So interesting information... I asked LMS for an update to the 4+X race tune on my 2010... I also asked the question if they would tune for e mixes (I know they have a stances against it, however, thought I would poke the bear) which Anthony replied no too... However... His response to the race tune is that the tune was designed to be run with a mix of race gas...otherwise I would not be getting the full amount of power from the tune... But that some people are using a couple gallons of E85 as a replacement..

Of course I asked the question "If I am running 93 octane, my OAR/LOR is maxed out, and I am not seeing any knock retard, what else do I need to monitor to verify I am getting full power"..

Still awaiting a response.. but this was the first time I have heard of needing race gas with their race tune....

Yes to get the most out of the race tune, you need 100 octane or better. You can run the race tune with 93, but the ECU will adjust timing. I have race tune for my '13 and the file title has 100 right in it.

I should have spoken with Anthony after I ran my race tune a few times. Even with a 50/50 mix of 102 and 93, my car was consistently slower with the race tune than with the regular 4+X. I even switched from the race tune to the 4+X at the track and a tenth ran quicker. I am not sure what the deal was but the season is over now so it doesn't really matter.

I had a noticeable sputter mid to the top of second and slight hesitation going into 3rd. They sent me some new tunes and it all cleared up. Now with the race tune its doing the samething. I run Shell 93 and if that isnt around BP but the car likes shell the best. Been mixing some E85 and was hoping to see some fun stuff I know when my 2011 mustand was on corn it was a beast it also had a paxton on it and ran out of fuel so I had to switch back to 93.

OK, well... in my tuner... the name of the tune is "4+x Race Tune"... I have personally datalogged several 0-100 pulls with this tune after OAR/LOR has reached -.96 which is maxing out the spark table AFAIK. I have not ONCE gotten any knock retard with this tune. And according to what I have researched, it is using the most spark advance the tune has to offer when sitting at -.96 OAR. This is with 93 Octane and No Ethanol.

No where have I read that I need to use 100 octane with this race tune, nor have I seen any evidence in the logs suggesting I need to increase the octane level due to knock retard.

Again, I asked Anthony if there is somewhere else I need to be looking to verify I am getting the full potential of this tune.

Update, LMS has not returned my email, however I did call and talk to Ethan. He said he is not one of the tuners, but he did say if OAR is maxed out and I am not getting any knock retard, then he would think I am be getting the most out of this tune...

That is with straight 93 octane, no ethanol, no race fuel on the 4+X race tune as described in my tuner.

Got the final word from Anthony and Dan over at LMS this morning on the phone. I am running the 4+x race tune, and they DO recommend running that tune with 109 octane race gas, which is to prevent ANY kind of knock retard on the the timing. They explained that it would be rare to not have some knock with only 93 octane on their race tune.

I explained to them that my OAR is pegged at -.96 and I am not getting ANY knock retard on 93 octane pump gas. And then asked how would adding additional octane help me? The response was "I must have a factory freak because almost everyone see's knock with that tune on just pump gas and if I wasn't seeing knock, then adding octane won't provide any additional power"...

So if you are not seeing knock with that tune, then you don't NEED race gas or E-mixes to get the full potential.

I am on my 93 octane tune from ajp pegged at -.96... my my foot is always on the floorboard... with my e20 tune the timing is obviously different, also pegged at -.96 I haven't tried the e20 tune with 93octane yet

Yea, my AJP tune is faster than my LMS... And I don't get knock with either tune. You can maintain the -.96 OAR while still having some knock retard. Amount of timing doesn't matter in this case because all I am talking about is timing being pulled in general by the knock sensor.

109 octane ... that race tune means bizness!
It does mean business. I am a good example of that.

LMS has always been consistent in their recommendations over the years.

So idk why this seems to be "new" news, or the "final word".

They have never wavered. 100% Methanol 100% of the time, and if running their racing tune file(s) then VP MS109. Period.
