Hello SHO Group,
When I was looking to trade my 08 Taurus for a SHO I had no idea there was a PP Performance Pack.
Actually until I started lurking here "post purchase" is when I found this fact.
Anyway, I test drove two SHO's before deciding on my 014. During the test drive I told the salesman that my SHO was a DOG. Turns out that both of the previous test drives were in PP Taurus.
I used FordEtis to search the vin on the other two.

IMO The PP SHO would have been the way to go... If I only had done more research.:bonk:

This group has so much info and Members in the know!!
I am glad I joined.

I have a PP but honestly you really shouldn't be able to tell the difference performance wise at least in acceleration. Maybe yours had 87 octane in it or something??

I believe the record holding Gen 4 SHO is a non performance package car with a lot of the PP options added (for longevity).
Despite the taller gear ratio, the tune seems to favour the non PP cars.
I think it is a 2010 SHO tuned by Livernoise.
The two dominant tuners are Livernoise and Unleashed, the first one is from Detroit and the second from Florida. You see a lot of activity from Livernoise on this forum and less activity from Unleashed.
If you get a tune, you may have made the correct choice after all.

Hello sperold,
Thank you for taking the time post post this message.
When you say "Livernoise tune" is that something I would need to take my SHO to Michigan to have them install?

Thank you for the mentions guys, we do appreciate it!

As for the PP vs non argument, it really does just depend upon how you want to drive the car. If you want to be able to "turn off" (greatly numb) all of the driver aids, spin the tires as long as your right foot allows and get the best gearing available then the PP car is the one for you. If you don't care about that level of control of the car, want to just get in, drive and put a few guys to sleep out on the streets then there is no reason for the extra investment in the PP car. It is ALL opinion in this battle. The only person that can tell you which car is "right" for you is you.

@Pintony, you do not need to come to Michigan for us to tune your car. Many of the fastest (quickest) cars on the forum actually run our remote tuning. Some of the fastest F-150's, Explorer Sports and Mustangs all run our remote tuning. We tune so many vehicles with our proprietary tuning software that there is nobody better than us. Here are the links to our most popular performance packages for the SHO:

One thing that I would implore you to add the 3 BAR MAP sensor to the mix, because it will allow for the most smooth, consistent and powerful tune available.

I would take geography into account as I have no confidence in being able to get myself out of trouble if anything went wrong. I would perhaps try the "over the internet" load, but I would always have a plan B (that being a personal visit) if any problems arose.
In my case it would be Livernoise.

Livernoise has a physical shop, but I don't know anything about Unleashed in that regard. But at least there would be someoene there who could help.

Unleashed has an ability called "datalogging" that appeals to some people, but I have no idea how important that feature is to a person like me. I understand it does help in analysing data that could help in a problem.

If you are thinking about a tune, get to know someone who has one and learn the ropes, especially about the install and how to revert back to stock when needed.

Both of my SHO's where PP cars. The '12 I retro fitted the oil cooler from +'13 cars. Traded it in for a white '13 cause had all the extra coolers on it. Both car tuned by Livernois and never had any issues. I drive out to see Jamie and the guys twice a year for CAD, and had 2 major trips on the '12. But yes the fastest Livernois tuned SHO's are non PP cars. If you get a chance def drive out to see the shop, ITS SO WORTH IT!

It's amazing that a 4400 lb car with a 215 cu in engine can move like this. How things have changed from the old days. I'm happy with the V8 tune, but I'll probably try the V9, when we go back to summer fuel.

That actually is the equivalent. Both are the most aggressive tunes available. If you send a request into tuning there might be something waiting...hint hint.
