I have a 2013 PP ( bought in late 2013) that has been sitting at the dealer since mid-April this year. Was told not to drive it due to interior door handles failing recall inspection. Received a call from the dealer that "they're sorry I've waited so long and want to make me a great deal on something" -- sounds like it's not being fixed any time soon. And ford's online tool says "no remedy available yet." I love(d) driving my SHO... i don't really want anything else. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? Can i do anything here to get my car (or the same model with mileage and options etc)? Or am i just completely screwed? Thanks

Wow... I have a 2013 PP and am waiting on parts for my door handles as well so it can get fixed but I am driving it around in the mean time and am not too worried about it but obviously your safety is your business. I also drive a motorcycle though which is arguable much less safe than the door handle issue. That said a Ford dealership SOLD me the car this way even after I asked if all the recalls had been performed. (that's another story)

Did they give you a rental? My 2011 had this issue a few months back before I sold it and they got me parts in 3 days...I would be asking more questions...There is apparently a backorder right now because my dealer told me it would be "about a month" but I think yours should have been corrected long ago...

First I have heard of a SHO being "impounded" for a lack of parts on this particular issue. Many SHOs have been inspected and/or repaired without any problems. Sounds like you have an overzealous dealer that doesn't know how to get parts.

Have you tried calling Ford's National Customer Service line yet? If you still have your SHO, you can keep driving it, but you should be extra cautious. Take it to another dealer.

I do have a rental, I've been in 3 different rentals ( first was an explorer, but i drive enough city driving that i didn't want the decrease in gas mileage), and i've had a fusion and a focus. I considered driving it around also, but didn't want to risk it, i had multiple door handles fail.

My car wasn't "impounded" exactly, they gave me the option to get a rental while waiting for parts, or to drive it at my own risk... I chose to leave it sit as multiple door handles failed and didn't want to risk passenger safety. I haven't called the National Customer Service line yet... I'll give that a shot. Thanks!

I have had my '13 inspected with one set of door handles "fixed" and the other set needing replaced. It's been well over 3 months and the service mgr has told me that there is a shortage of replacement parts to correct the issue. I would have thought Ford would do a better job of building up replacement/repair parts stock before issuing the recall.

I'm driving my car regardless and if something happens they can come get it and pull a set of door handles out of a Taurus on their lot to fix my car...not my problem and they will fix it without delay for all I care.
