I did search first but can't yet find an exploded view or just a pic of how the spare tire set up goes in gen 2 SHO. I've got several parts from several cars and...I get that the threaded J hook probably goes through the body in the floor of the well, but the how to do plastic parts and the jack line up in order and then the cover over the whole thing?? Thnkas in advance, just trying to put it back the way it was intended to be..

the J hook goes through the spot in the floor as you said. the tire lays in there with the outside down, and then the jack slips over the threaded J hook piece - there is a washer welded on to the jack where the threaded piece goes through it. Then there was a foam piece that the plastic wing nut fit into - that gets threaded on. the jack handle/wrench fits between the outside of the tire and the trunk well.

btw, you can fit a full size slicer in there if you have the trunk tray that has the raised section to cover the tire. iirc, it is raised 2.5-3" to fit over the tire. Those trays are rare but do exist. They turn out to be important because the 15" spare does not fit over the 96+ big front brakes.

A full size (215/60/16) doesn't really fit in the wheel well either. I do have a raised cover though. I've found a couple of them, and just went with the best one I could get.

Anyone have a picture of this raised cover? Is it steel, or fiberboard like the flat cover.

I have seen the jack/spare tire assembly detailed on a paper decal on the underside of the spare cover.

Okay..thank you, So, I am missing the foam piece, I have the J hook ...the Jack... the black cuppy looking thing that sits upside down and the J hook goes through it i think, and I have the plastic wing nut, and I have the flat gray tire cover....but I do not have the foam piece...What shape is it and how big would you say?? So if I see it laying around at the JY, I'll know what I'm looking for...tks

It doesn't fit perfect, but still takes less room than a full size.

its fiberboard like the flat one, just has a raised circular section the size of a tire, and has the same "carpet" over it like the flat one.

I took a look at the one I have and the only part number E6D6-17093-AA I saw on there was at the bottom of the spare tire instruction placard. I assume that is the part number of the placard. I found mine in the junkyard and occasionally see them.

Are these SHO specific?
It was an option on the Taurus line if you picked the Full size spare option. I had it on a 94 SLO and kept the cover when I sold the car. Its nice to have a full size spare when going on long trips, though you lose some trunk space.

I had a blowout on a Sunday traveling from San Diego to Las Vegas in the middle of nowhere. Ever since that day I've had a full size spare in my trunk.

Yea that # is for the label, same #/label on the regular covers.

I have several of the full size spare covers in stock.
There is also a black plastic cone that fits over the Jhook to keep it vertical.
If you want to sell one please pm me price, condition, etc.
I have a # and a line on a new one that is supposed to be full size at a nos parts warehouse place, but they won't get a pic so I can confirm.

For Sable too I believe. They use the same covers.

I believe you are correct. I've used Sable parts on my cars as they tend to be lower mileage and in better condition than most of the junkyard Taurus here

G1 Taurus full size spare covers had an indent a the rear center between the tail lamps.
The G2 and all year Sables did not have the indent.
