And this is what I was calling the regulator which Ford states it's not. Ford says the FPR sits right on the rail which btw you can't even get to unless you pull the top plenum off or so I believe.

That is the high pressure fuel pump right there.

Couldn't load the video file for some reason.

Emissions warranty outside of CA is 80,000 miles, plus likely the incident investigation has had to have been done at a dealership or authorized center probably to qualify.

http://www.ford.com/resources/ford/general/pdf/2010Warranty.pdf
Under the CARB section of the Emissions warranty (may not be the case for other states):
You are responsible for presenting your vehicle to a Ford Motor
Company dealer as soon as a problem exists. The warranty repairs
should be completed in a reasonable amount of time, not to exceed 30
days.

So that is the high pressure pump huh, ok good to know. So, it has 2 then, that one and the in-tank fuel pump then.
I uploaded the video via youtube this time instead. Here's the link:

Yeah, I don't know if that jackhammer sound is normal or not, I don't think anyone's listened to it that closely. To me, it sounds like maybe the cam inside the HPFP is hitting something it's not supposed to, i.e., you may need to put in a new HPFP. Just a wild guess tho on my part.

Yeah, it just sounds way too noisy to be normal but I've seen the strangest things. Thanks for the emissions info. I'm in the quest for a repair manual so i can get some fuel pressure numbers and some info here, otherwise I'm running ***** here. Would just suck if it's normal and we spent the money.

Can you hear any of that sound with the engine cover back on? Based on this post, you might want to check if the fuel lines are possibly rubbing against something.

Here's a quick primer on the HPFP:

I'd have to get the engine cover from my brother. It's pretty loud without it as you can see in the vid. Thanks for the vids and tips.

So today I got a chance to work on it. Last time I plugged my vacuum gauge to engine vacuum and vacuum was a mere 9 mmHg at 3-4K RPM's. So today I unhooked the exhaust right after the cats and there was full vacuum. So a plugged exhaust is the issue. So the restriction is after both cats. There is another honeycomb in the middle that got plugged up. Not sure what the heck that honeycomb is for as there are no 02 sensors but looks like its a waste of space so prob gonna cut it out. I took pictures of the honeycomb with my inspection camera that I'll upload later.

The SHO actually has 3 cats, not two. One for each bank + the third one that's common to both. It works so well that you can run catless downpipes, retain this third cat, and not see/smell any of the fumes that would otherwise exit the tailpipe!

BTW, good call, itwonder!

A 3rd cat, what a waste of money. Well, my brother didn't wanna spend any more money on it so he opted to gut it out, so we did. He don't care about fumes this and that. As long as we don't get a p0420, then we're good. Thanks for the info. Back in my more active car days we used to gut those cats for track use.

3rd cat. ( Sorry about the quality. Inspection cameras don't have HD or DVD quality)

So I vacuumed out pieces of the cat from bank 1 that were sitting at the 3rd cat. And as you can see the 3rd cat was plugged up. The car was literally not breathing whatsoever. Nothing over 30 mph. After gutting out the 3rd cat, we put it back together and the beast came alive. She was happy at full throttle.

Now what caused both cats: bank 1 and 3rd common cat to go bad? Still on the quest to find out. Waiting for a pdf repair manual to finish downloading so I can get some specs on fuel pressure and other stuff. I'll be checking PCV system, FI systems shortly.
