I have Cobra Brakes on my '91 SHO, but I don't want to carry my full size spare. Does anyone know of a 17" donut that'll fit over the Cobra brakes that we can use? Maybe off of a Volvo or a new Fusion or Focus?

Thanks.

Use stock donut. In the event of a flat front tire jack up side of car and move rear wheel to front and put donut on rear.

I know I can do that, but that's a lot of work. lol I travel a lot for business, and speed is important. I have to make sure I can change a flat quickly.

Look for a Focus ST spare, specifically a focus made after 3/31/14. It may require a spacer to work, but the 14+ ST Focus had 13.1'' front rotors and used a 16'' spare tire.

My only worry with that is that they might have made the caliper slimmer on the Focus so it would fit inside of a 16" rim, where as the Cobra caliper might be thicker which is why it requires a 17" rim.

Unfortunately, unless you run a full size spare it is going to be a bit of trial and error with finding a doughnut that fits. No cars with the 5x108 bolt pattern came with a PBR Caliper based 13'' kit from the factory. Other 5x108 cars with 13"+ Sized rotors were also far and few in between until recently.

Good luck.

I wonder if it's possible to take a Mustang donut and drill a 5x108 bolt pattern in it...

Yeah, I'll have to play with one of those spares and see how it comes out. That might be my only good option.

That's what I do now, but I'm trying to drop weight and give myself more room in the truck for my hitches.

Even if you find a 17" donut, it might not fit in your spare tire well. Then you still won't have any more room in the trunk.....

I have a full size 17" exactly like my rims. I bought 5 of the same kind. It fits just fine, because the tire is low profile. It's just so heavy. It's 40 lbs. I'd like a 15 lb donut, preferably. I'd give me more room for stuff in the trunk and help reduce some weight.

I'm sorry but driving a FWD car with a donut on front would not be done by me. I'm with Chad on this and move rear to front.

Well, if you have a donut on front, you might understeer. But if you have one on the rear you might oversteer. However, I'd agree--better to have the donut on the rear so you have better braking up front regardless of front or rear-wheel drive.

Lincoln LS would be another car to try and find one in.

LS only needs 16s to clear the brakes.
that said, i'm not sure what size the mini spare in that car is, ours came with a full size spare.
(but probably 16")

Dang... I may have to try volvo. You sure the LS sport edition with 17" rims doesn't have big brakes?

What size tire? I'm curious, as I'm looking for the right sized tire to fit in my spare tire well....

I have a 235/40/17 on my spare, but only because it's what came with the rims when I bought them. A 245/45/17 should fit well, because that's almost the same diameter as a stock tire. I have 245/45/17s all the way around. I might put spacers on the back wheels though, because the insides rub slightly against my coilover base plate on the struts. I'd help handling a little anyway, so that's a plus.
