As I spend more time investigating this car ( don't own yet ) I have a couple questions from the members here. One is performance / maintenance related and the other is worst case scenario engine compatibility.

1. I see some information on carbon buildup on the backs of the intake valves on all EB motors, something not uncommon for DI motors. Have there been any reports from users of meth injection systems that this setup has cleaned their intake ports and the backs of their valves?

2. Worst case scenario you blow the motor in an SHO. Is a F150 salvage motor an option, and if so, to what extent? Just the long block or short block or what? Any difference in the turbos or induction whatsoever between the F150 and the SHO EB motors?

TIA

While I'm not yet experienced enough to fully answer your questions, I can tell you this:

1. Regardless of meth injection or not, my understanding is that if you only use a quality full synthetic oil, your carbon build-up can be substantially minimized. Also, an intake cleaning would take care of those intake valves... HOWEVER... it's a good idea to wait until Ford comes up with a nice way to perform one on our EB's that won't risk damaging the turbos. Bottom line, top of the line oil is cheaper than replacing your turbos. ;)

2. The worst case scenario of a blown motor has, to the best of my knowledge, never EVER happened... to anyone... tuned or otherwise.... not even those with appreciable mileage on them. These are just fantastic motors. I'm much more concerned about babying my tranny over babying my engine, since Ford's history with trannies seems to be hit or miss. That said... I'm sure any car can be fitted with just about any motor, with enough work and ingenuity, like this "Smart Car" with... God knows what under the hood, lol. From what I've read, the F-150 does have the same motor, just a few minor differences, so I'd guess that could work with some adjustments... but... if it were me, I'd rather just get Livernois' new EB shortblock, the whole works. :omgsho: :3gears:

my understanding is the rwd block (F150) is significantly different from the laterally installed block (SHO, MKS, etc.) so I don't think you could use a F150 block in the cars.

Cool...more or less just curious because a lot more F150 EB on the road I'm sure than SHO Tauri so if a catastrophe were to occur, I would think easier to go that route. Sounds like it's not much a concern.

As for the carbon buildup, that's also what I read regarding induction cleaning service burning up the turbos. I guess worst case scenario might be burned up turbos if you're ignorant of forums and information. Anybody selling rebuilt EB turbos for the 3.6 or is it easier to find them otherwise, like pulled from a F150 from a salvage or buying new, or simply upgrading?

A head swap under warranty seems pretty extreme. Would be cool if you could keep the heads, have them cleaned and ported and swap them back on the motor!

The carbon thing BTW is not unfamiliar to me since I currently own a MS3 which is a DI turbo motor and suffers from the same issue. Lots of guys running catch cans and always run synthetic. I always run synthetic in my cars anyway and learning about the carbon problem being avoided longer by running it was a bonus.

Thanks for replies.

upgrading the turbos is going to be cheaper than upgrading the engine... but why not do both?
