Got out of my 91 SHO tonight after arriving at work and I walk in front of the car to find the engine cooling fan is still running. I tried starting and turning it off again (worth a shot right?) and the fan kept running. So to save me the pain of coming out in the morning to a dead battery, I pulled the plug by the fan and it stopped running. I asked a friend of mine and he said that it sounded like a relay was stuck open. Does this sound like the problem to you guys?

Its a bunch of relays all put into a box, controls all the fans and Fuel pump and a couple other things.

Its the Black box on the driver side next to the radiator It will have a letter on it and you will need a working box with the same letter. Someone on the Forum should have one seeing as they are a common problem.

They loot like this:

That infamous black box!

I was able to buy a brand new one from AutoZone (specific for my ATX/year), but I still bought a good used one just in case.

Things were much simple in my old Ranger where there was an individual relay for everything and were under the hood's fuse box.

Hey, I don't mean to jump into your convo like this, but........what do you guys think if I told you my cooling fans are turning on anytime I have the heat on? (Defrost and Non-Defrost.) A "spacy" ECM or bad CCRM? (I also had to replace the CCRM recently with a code J off a regular Taurus and had the ECM reflashed.)

I think that might be normal...anything that cycles the AC compressor should kick the fans on? Maybe not, I'm not sure.

If you open the box it is relays on a motherboard.

I know turning the A/C on will turn the fans on High. Didnt think the heat would since its, well heat.

ford seems to have a habit of running the ac to dehumidify the air when the heat is running. so the compressor / fan will come on.

my car does. (i can hear the dying compressor clutch bang loudly on a cold start.) your grey car did. dunno how the manual climate stuff works though.

Yeah, all IK is that I NEVER use the heat, unless it's raining outside and i need to clear the window, and i never remember the fans coming on last winter. It's just kinda unsettling when i turn on the heat and the fans turn full blast even if the car is cold...I also noticed the fans dont't always turn off right away when i turn off the heat( I've never had them stay on with the car off though)

Lol same thing happenedto me I turn off the car and hear the fan running. So I see this forum and know it's the ccrm. I get out (was about to unplug the fan, thought I'd give it a try) and knock on the ccrm and the fan turns off. Lol cool
Still need to find another one now.
