Anyone replaced the rotors and pads? Have approximately 48K miles and the brakes are giving some vibration when slowing, especially from high speeds. Looking for input from those that might have replaced and where parts were purchased from.

I got my pads and rotors from AutoAnything & TireRack respectively. AutoAnything has deals (% off) regularly. They carry most brands. Check both companies websites, as well as ebay & Amazon.

I looked at this before with my '10 and the options out there are Hawk LTS & HPS pads. You can also look at EBC brakes, they have a full line of pads available.

thanks for the replies. Any difference between her nonPP car and a PP car? If so can I upgrade to their brakes?

'11 SHO newbie but car guy 45 yrs. Re BRAKES--what's best way to improve fade (non-track, just emergency stops and twisty roads) w/o a lot of noise or rapid wear of rotors? Any insights wd be appreciated! Have 20" wheels.

maybe install the brakes from the 13' with performance package.... even the non performance pack 13's have some really nice brakes. I had a 2010 and now a 2013 and the 13's brakes are far superior.

Wonder if those '13 SHO brakes would fit on my Flex. I thought I read somewhere about a knuckle change and some other things.

That's funny cause LTS stands for Light Truck & SUV and are designed for vehicles that tow :laugh_ti:. I run them on my Super Duty. They are great pads for my truck, but are probably more designed for the Explorer and just happen to share calipers with the Taurus now?

So.....I got EBC ultimax rotors(slotted) and EBC green pads. What I pulled off could almost be considered new. No ridge on the stock rotors and the pads were still 3/8" thick or so per pad. Here's where the fun starts. The factory pads have indentions(slots) built in to support a spring for both ends of the pads. The EBC greens did not. I said oh well and put everything together. Test drove the car and wasn't crazy about the way it felt, but the EBC's have that breakin material so I thought that was what I was feeling. Fast forward about a month, wife's car I rarely drive it. I get in and am driving still feels ****** IMHO. Moderate squeeze from 60 and the steering wheel shakes. I'm not happy. Does it pretty much every time I stop. The next day I jack the car up, put the factory pads on with the springs, test drove it 6 hard stops from 60ish down to around 10 and all felt good. Drove it some more any really no noticeable vibration or abnormal groaning. So now I'm waiting to hear back from AA about the pads which really aren't designed for our vehicles.

I opted for the "Yellow" pads from EBC when I did mine recently.

No issues whatsoever. A lil dustier than I'd prefer, but meh, that's the trade off I suppose.

I had a similar issue with the Hawk pads. I ended up going with Stop Tech pads. I drilled the missing dimples into the pads. They work great once warmed up. I think these cars need some stainless / braided lines. I think the pedal is just too mushy.

Maybe the Flex pads are different, but I am also running Stop Tech pads and haven't had any issues in over 20K.... Definitely stops better. Also running Power Slot rotors on front. However, they are much dustier than stock.

So I get an email stating to call back and discuss my brake issues with a represenative. The feedback I received is that they will forward my issue to EBC and if EBC deems it a problem they will then allow me to return the pads and I assume issue a refund. Sounds like I'll be calling Discover and dispute charges as the pads have no provision for the factory springs. I'll post a picture later today for those that don't know what I'm talking about. I will never buy anything else from AA.

factory Ford pads, with provisions for the factory spreader spring.

GEDC0364

EBC pads with no provisions to reuse the factory springs.

GEDC0365

They'll get back with me if they'll refund my money on the pads?

If it helps out your argument at all...... I went back and looked at the image I captured of my EBC Yellow Pads before install, and it appears also they do not have what you term the "spring provision".

Image posted below, but i'll add that I haven't experienced any issues with mine either.

So not sure what this can do for your claim, but at least it shows the same thing as you are reporting.

Hope it's of some help to you

All those springs do is help push the pads back off of the rotor when you get off the pedal to prevent squealing noises. The springs wont effect your actual braking performance at all. Just an NVH thing.
