They're not so much weak as they are old at this point . As stated the flex eventually kills them . I'm sure someone could make a fix. Who would want to?
I'm gonna break one more. Maybe this year.
Also look at the price difference between them.... come on lol
put 5k into the sho and its back on top
Pointless argument. Put $5k into other '89 US sedans and the SHO loses.
Drop a Ford V8 & RWD Kugel Conversion into my Focus and it blows any any SHO, with ANY mods, EVER.............BFD!!
535i was/is still a superior car.
Lived in Louisville in mid-90s. Two coworkers had '89 535is, both black, both auto. I bought the new '99 SHO and drove back to Louisville for a former coworkers wedding. '99 SHO had maybe 2K miles. Traded my buddy for his 135K-mile '89 535i from the church to the reception. It was STILL tighter, and had better tactile sensations, than my NEW '99 SHO.
Not quite as quick, but still a nicer car.
I could afford a new 535i in '89. Price difference to the SHO was irrelevant to me. I just had a different plan, which didn't materialize. Got the 911 Cabriolet a few years later, which ended up being better than the 328 GTS plan......

Obviously the build quality is better on the general car but the motor still out powered tht 535i
What i am really saying is you cant compare a 535i of the time to a SHO. Yes they both have 4 doors, but the 535i price was what doubled the sho? Come on lets be fair ..... Might as well compare the 535i with the new 300srt8????
The 535i was around $43k adjust for inflation today $79,577.05 while the sho was $21,694.00 adjust for inflation today $40,147.55. Obviously the build quality is better on the general car but the motor still out powered tht 535i
Just tell me how and i will lol
He is fabricating everything from trial and error. Modifying our case to fit sti internals is a BIG job. He is getting close to getting it on a dyno he told me a little while ago
I beat the **** out of my trans, everyday pretty much, I just don't do burnouts.

But I am assuming that you use your clutch and dont peel the inside tire around all the corners etc. Also, what fluid are you running?
I guess my point is that there is a differance between driving it aggressively and beating on it like Zach. I drive my sho fairly aggressively....lots of high rpm shifts and WOT runs. So far the trans is doing well without alot of metal build up on the case magnet.

There is a fix. It costs $8000. Still want it?
yep what is that a rear wheel drive conversion?
