I periodically drive for my local Ford dealer. Three of us had to make a trip to Elmira NY Thursday. We brought back the following, Mustang V6, Mustang GT, and the Shelby. I was the one that got to drive the Shelby. I can only say, that it will be a handfull of car and power if the driver doesn't know what he's doing. It's a beast in hiding under the hood. Loved driving it, and was in awe of the power from it, but when all was said and done, it really felt great getting back into the SHO. The NY and northern PA roads are rough and the suspension was a killer and jarring. Had the Shaker Audio and Nav system, but lacked the power seats and sun roof. For $57K I certainly thought they would be a standard accessory. Also, the last one the dealer picked up and sold came with a car cover. Great car, but I love my SHO!

That's cool, you're right near my old stomping grounds south of Buffalo. With all of power of the GT500, did you now the 2013 is gonna have 100 more hp and lots of other tweaks to handle it all? It starts at $55k, it consider that a bargain for a 200mph monster that will walk all over the more expensive Camaro ZL1. BTW, you can't get a sunroof on any new Mustang. It won't fit with the mechanisms required, unless you were referring to just the fixed glass roof option? It sounds like a fun drive though. Sure beats being stuck behind a desk, right?

IF comparing to the Camero ZL1, I would take it in a heartbeat over the GT500; bragging rights take a backseat to pragmatic choices. The ZL1 is every day livable, and has the most advanced magneto-rheologic susp. of any vehicle, more than the new CTS-V or Ferrari. Smooth ride, balanced and composed over bumpies, while having 5 msec response times, albeit a much hevier beast thatn the 500. Beating another car by a little bit when you track your car 4 times a year, far more than 90 % of those who will buy either car, means 99% of the time it is not being driven on the track. After renting the new Volvo 60 series for 2 days, there is no way I would ever buy that car since the ride is absolutely terrible on public roads. The magazines all praise the car, only because they are testing on smooth roads in CA, which do not exist where I live, and in most other parts of the world.

I would probably choose a GT500 over a ZL1, but I agree the Ferd won't walk all over it. And the magnetoheological shocks are awesome. It will make the ride much better and make the handling good enough to keep up with the lighter Ferd.

How will the GT500 engine take to mods? My LSA was cake to pump up to 630hp with identical driveability and reliability. There are so many guys running around with 700-800hp in their Vs, it's not funny. With everyday driveability...

Also, they're the same price.

I have a friend at SVT who's driven the cars back to back on crappy Detroit roads and claims the 2013 GT500 actually rides better

Really, well that is much diferent than what the pundits all claim, if that is the case. There are settings to choose from with Delphi's Gen III magnaride, so maybe he was dialed in sport mode ? I was just in Detroit last week at both GM R & D, and Ford Eng, who have nanomechanical test systems from my company, and can attest to how bad the roads are around there.

If the Camaro was the only car available... I wouldn't buy it because it's GM... Union Owned and Govt. Controlled. I have had at least 35 new GM cars... Love my 2 G8 GT's but will NEVER EVER BUY ANOTHER GM VEHICLE.

Amen Brother...Amen....(Though I have never had a GM that I liked....)

the only GM I had that I ever really liked was the Saturn Ion Redline... which is sad to say the least.

I stand corrected... may buy a used GM vehicle built before bankruptcy....

oh... you mean the old GM that doesn't exist and isn't liable for anything...

http://www.thecarconnection.com/news/1065147_gm-wants-impala-class-action-lawsuit-thrown-out

Don't get me wrong... i've owned a number of GM vehicles.... my wife's family is all GM... I was even ok with the bailout... then I read the above article and about puked... I understand the legal argument, but that doesn't make it right... And that is way there will be no more GM vehicles in my driveway..

Today when they were welding in a bung for my A/F Innovate on my 08' G8 GT, I noticed that my oil pan gasket is leaking. Not bad, but it is definitely leaking, and worse when they replaced the original pan gasket. Still under engine & drive train warranty, but with headers and other obvious mods, I suppose they will not go forward. Hopefully a bit of tightening might help. When they did the pan gasket in 2010, the dealer wouldn't replace my Synthetic oil with synthetic, and wanted full price as GM supposedly wouldn't allow them to charge the difference. I then supplied 2 5 QT Mobil 1 containers... Have a feeling they didn't even use it an screwed me twice. Sad... Only good news is dealer has really had financial issues due to what GM did to them....
Serves them right...

What news article did I miss which stated Ford took bailout money? And I must have really been sleeping because I completely missed that Ford killed off Lincoln. Mercury, yeah, but never heard any mention of Lincoln. Are you sure about your statements?

FORD DID NOT TAKE BAILOUT MONEY!!!!

And.. all the American Automakers, including Ford, had no guts to stand up to the UAW like John Deere & Caterpillar. Deere obtained a 2 tier contract in 1998, with Cat following closely. They are very healthy, profitable multi-national companies because of that decision. What upsets me about GM Bankruptcy was how the Union ended up with stock in the company, and how they were not penalized, instead keeping their entire pensions and insurance benefits. The management, most of which had no part of top management's failures at negotiation, and other short sighted policies, lost both their pensions and health care. Bankruptcy plan was set up before the bankruptcy took place, and was developed by the current Presidential Administration, and benefited his constituency at the expense of all white collar non-union employees.

My Dad had 26 new Cadillacs in his lifetime, and I've had 4. Liked my vehicles that were built by the "Old GM" for the most part. Don't hate the new ones, just not going to buy them.

The loans Ford received from private banking sources in the mid-2000's when business was good, were secured by their plants and land. They have paid down this debt and upgraded their credit to almost the top. This should happen in next 12 months. And they did it all without "GOVT BAIL OUT MONEY".
