Bridgestone potenza re760's. brand new.
No ice, no wind, And for those who know me my cars actual name is the blue turd. But i bet your stock 14.8 was not trapping 97 mph. :)

Well sorry, didn't know your car had an actual name or that's it's your first time stripping. Practice practice, you'll get better and I'm glad you're on a track and not on the street making curbs scared anymore.
94.9 mph btw.:)

that engine pushed a full weight street 91+ to 97 mph many nights in the cool NY air

you need to go down to silver dollar south of atlanta, it's faster than commerce. several hundred feet lower elevation

My bad, Canadian trying to convert meters in feet... ; ) km/h to mph, L/100km to mpg... I sometimes lose the count! but I figure it's easier for me to adapt than have every one do the maths...
Cheers!

It always makes me wonder why some engine run so much stronger than others. Perhaps its the way it was broke in. My old 3.0 mechanically ran great, but was never that strong....struggled to put 217 to the wheels with all the bolt ons and camms. My new 3.2 with the same bolt ons and camms put 246 to the wheels and 24 more ftlbs. Seemed like a big jump for .2 liters. I know for a fact the old 3.0 was babied alot and I broke the 3.2 in by beating the snot out of it to seat the rings.

Nice trap. Was the front breaking loose on your between 1-2 shift? Just curious. I had a ZX3 I was racing for a while. Started bone stock. Then started doing simple mods to bring the numbers down. My last passes in the car I added spring spacers (like the $15 autozone deals) to the rear of the car. That kept the car from sagging in the back and unloading the front. That much improved the way the car launched. By the time I was done with the car I had shaved almost 3 seconds off. And all that was minor things. Weight reduction, different oil, different plugs. So on and so forth.

Another thing. Quit with the hot laps. It might have been your first time but let the car and the tires relax some before you make your next pass. It will save the car and the e.t.'s. And just for giggles bolt the hood back on. At 100 thats alot of disturbance in the front.

Only reason I hot lapped the car at the end was because there was 30 mins left and I had only ran 3 times. The hood is back on the car now. I plan on going back out there in a couple weeks. I hope that there is some cooler temps with less humidity. Things that will be different this time is I'll have a pnp intake, bbb, kONI, intrax. And a whole bunch of other things but those 4 will make the biggest improvement. My next time I go out I'm shooting for a 14.5 @ 99 or possible a even lower et.

.36 seconds is a lot. But I think you can get there with practice and those mods...especially the koni/intrax.

Figure only .1 second per one hundred lbs of weight you shave, so you've about used up the easy speed in that catagory.

By my reckoning, the launch is, by far, the most "Make-it or Break-it" thing there is when drag racing a FWD car.

I'll bet that if you played with a little less camber than you'd have on the street normally, your 60 ft times would go down.

Was it really squirrelly as you blew through first gear? If so, the inside edges of your tires are probably lifting off the tarmac. The Koni/intrax will help that, though and so might a little less camber. You'll make more noise going around corners, though - keep that in mind.

By the end, you should be able to damn near drop the clutch as the tach reaches 3000-3500 and your foot goes to the floor (simultaneously) and you shouldn't feel much in the way of torque-steer until you pop second and then it should jump like a bronco.

I'm am 100% confident that the car will go 14.4@98+ with a 2.2 60' time and cooler weather. ****, Even in the weather he ran in I would say that a 14.4 is possible.

A 2.2 60' is where that car is going to stay with the current tires. I would say practice to get it down to a 2.2 60', AVOID the big burnouts (Just a small one to get the water off) and have at it. Once your able to consistently launch it, then worry about DR's.

Overall, Z did pretty damn well on the first time out.

A few comments:

Ryan Pasch's 14.5 was honest, as far as I can tell, but not repeatable with the hurricane wind he had.

I have personally witnessed Dave Garber (driver extrordinare (sp?)) turn mid 14.60s with his stock '95 MTX. He also took John Semchena's bone stock '02 Maxima 6-speed to the 14.40s when the rest of us were a half-second slower.

Yes, I am a firm believer in "drive it like you stole it" to get a quicker car. I have posted examples many times in the past for this, particularly having the first stock Gen 3 into the 14s, and the next 4-5 folks who followed did the same thing.

Zach has a strong car, and he can most definitely get better with it.

Other than that, I have no opnion!! :p

Go over to clubgp.com and find the cable mod in the faq section. This is the holy grail to launching a fwd. I only got to try it out on the street because I ended up having to watch my daughter. Im 100% positive ill be running sub 2.0 60ft times with this. Shit is ridiculous!

What about air bags in the suspension... I know that some of gen4 owners have installed them and it helps to counter balance the FWD «negatives» even on our AWD (because it is a FWD based AWD)... I don't know much, but maybe others can continue with that idea if it makes sense...

The cable mod has been around for years, as in pre-GTP days.

No bags available for the earlier Gens (I checked years ago). Better to have a removed solid rod to lock the rear for the strip.

I'll share a couple things that helped me over the years.

1. Spring spacers/helpers or whatever.
My best of 14.2 @ 98.xx came on stock worn out suspension and full weight 90 3180lbs.
The only think keeping the rear bumper from ripping off was those spacers.
Stoping the weight transfer is key,you already have a leg up with fresh struts and spring though.

2.Let the car cool off.
Push the car up through the staging lanes if you are serious about it.
Ice in a drip pan over the intake manifold helps also, that ****** gets hot in route.
Use the A/C controls to kick on the high speed fans.

3. Tires
get some good ones.
Stock pressures up front higher pressures in the rear will help with rolling resistance.
Drive around the water/burnout box,do a little burnout to knock the dirt off.

As noted already, tail winds, lower humidity and cooler temps should help alot also.
Focus on keeping the car straight down track and minimizing torque steer effect.
Keep yourself calm and don't worry about the other driver or your R/T.
At night run only with parking lights to reduce alternator load.

Im going back out here in two weeks, Im going to be trying tjhe cable mod. My potenzas did hook quite well with my best 2.2 60ft. I actually believe a 2.0 60ft time is possible with the cable mod. I plan on going out and running a 14.4-14.2 around 99-100mph.
