My car has never seen regular since. But if you plan on driving like grandpa on his way to church on Sunday I would say regular is fine.
Not worth to me, I don't care if ford would give me unlimited engine replacements.

I've never been told I drive like Grandpa (unless Grandpa was an Indy car driver :) and run regular. Not any pinging or other strange noises. Just fast acceleration and a fun driving experience.

I've flogged it on hills (including a 3 mile hill out in western PA) in the summer and nothing. The hill is a good one - stoplight at the bottom and 2 lanes for the 3 miles up the hill. I ran out of nerves at 90 MPH before the car ran out of steam.

I think we all are going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

No, found this stuff from torco called accelerator can raise your octane rating as high as 105. Have done some investigating on this stuff and it come highly recommended.

To the fellas that think regular is ok, I have heard pinging in my engine while on regular under hard acceleration. So unless you know what your listening for, which I don't think most do. At free way speed under acceleration it sound like a tick a very rapid tick. My car has never seen regular since. But if you plan on driving like grandpa on his way to church on Sunday I would say regular is fine.

careful with the use of octane boosters, MMT build up can be pretty bad
i only carried around octane booster in case i was unable to find 94 octane for my WRX

you are probably better off to buy some VP racing fuel and mix with premium than dumping octane booster in

you do realize we are running a bit over 100mph in the 1/4 from a dead stop

and some people here are performing touge mountain runs at well over 100mph

The noise of pinging can be compared to frying bacon in the pan...
Beware of grandpas late for church, they can drive pretty fast lol!

Well, down in KY where I work......

Folks my age (61) are great-grandpas down there!!

FWIW, back when I bought my new '89 in '89 when I was 39, the average age of new SHO owners (in the early 90s when I got involved with the group) was about my age. I only knew one guy in his 20s with a new SHO.

Low $20K range for a new car back then was comparable to the cost of a new SHO today.

I have the original window sticker for my car and in 1995, it went for over $28k. Looking at 2010 inflation, that's roughly $40k. My car was 7 years old by the time I bought it and I was 20. I paid $8.5k for it and BB value at the time was $7.5k (2002). It was clean enough for me to justify the cost.

Now the money I've sunk into it... I know I have roughly $10k just in the motor build and supercharger setup.

I can afford a new car, but will never buy a "toy" car new. I'm going to mod the crap out of it anyway, so it just needs a straight body and good paint since I don't do that crap. I save the new car purchasing for my wife's daily and even she doesn't care for new since we don't pay ridiculous maintenance/repair costs since I'm talented enough to do it myself. Did I mention I don't trust anyone else (well, there are a few friends that understand me and are capable). My dad and I have used warranty work a few times back in the 1990's and each time was a disaster.

95s were expensive when you added the options. Same with the '97 SHO, you could get the sticker up to about $33k. In '98 & '99, they went to a single price loaded ($29.5 - $29.6K)

Inflation since '95 is about a 1.5x factor, so the comparable price is about $42k.....pretty fair considering that the 2010-11-12 have more options available.

I'm all for the "everyone needs to work hard and buy just 1, ONE, brand new car in their lifetime; and after they get their kicks, used cars from then on out" philosophy.

Seems like everyone wants a new car at some point in their lives, but most, like me, realize it's not worth spending the extra $ and losing all that value afterward just to have that "new car smell" for the 1st 10k miles or less. There are too many off lease, CPO, and other almost new cars out there for a fraction of the price.

I have bought 1 and only 1 new car in my life (00 Civic EX Coupe), wife still has her 1st and only new car (08 Milan Premier I4). We both decided used from here on out.

Well, I haven't gone through my car list for awhile, but basically I've been close to 50 - 50 new - used. Lotsa reasons for a new car.....and if it wasn't for new buyers, there would be no used cars!!

At this point in my life, I hate car payments. Well, ANY monthly payments, as my house is now paid for. When I was younger, it wasn't that big a deal.

When I bought the new '05 LGT, in about '07 or so they did a poll on the age of new LGT owners. The average, median, and most common age was 27. I was one of the "really old guys" in my 50s.

These guys bought them new, then immediately spent thousands on wheels/tires, suspensions, and mods.

Mostly young IT and other engineering types. Stark contrast to the typical owner of an older SHO.

If you knew the road, it's not flat and not really banked. IIRC the speed limit is 35 or 45 max.

And mine is not tuned, just bone stock.

Well, I bring the age down a little at 36. :)

And I think it goes well beyond the SHO. The other day, a sir in his 60's sided with me at a stoplight, me on my SHO and he on his 5.0

I instantly though, "shouldn't I be on the Mustang and he on the Taurus?" For the way he looked at me I guess he was thinking the same. Lol.
