It's too bad the chrome peeled off cuz with your car being black, and now the tails being tinted, I kind of actually like the chrome outer ring.

After looking at the picture of those tail-lights I think that I agree with you Mike. The tint with the chrome trim does look great! :thumb:

I think that I may order my replacement tails (my chrome trim is starting to peal as well) from Ford and then tint those.

Thanks again for the pics Steve

I'm really thinking about doing this with my Flex to approximate the look of the Titanium lights. I'm old I'm sure the cops won't give me too much hassle. :)

...You should possibly consider asking whoever it was that installed the tint for you, see if they can replace the areas where the chrome peeled with a chrome type of vinyl overlay.QUOTE]

I called the guy and he told me that the chrome vinyl has actually metal in it and it it not flexible enough to apply it around the tail lights. I guess I will have to order new tail lights from Ford dealer under waranty and then order a new kit of tinted film to have installed... A 100$ mistake because I was too excited to have them installed too quickly... well, well, well... :booboo:

I need to have my tail lights replaced because of the chrome peeling off. Since I needed to remove the tinted film before leaving my car at the dealer (this afternoon), yesterday I took time to cut the center portion of the tail lights (where the reverse light is) to see how it would look. I think it looks sharp, cleaner look and less stealth (which is the route I want to undertake for my car). Here are some pics of before, after and comparison with stock... We currently have a strike of postal services in Canada, so I should receive the new tinted film (gunsmoke 12%) from Lamin-x in a few days. I will post pictures of final result when completed. Hope it gives ideas to people that want to tint their lights. BTW, Mike also have the center portion cut off. On my black car, it makes the surrond chrome look better imo. Enjoy :
Completely stock :

Completely tinted :

One stock and one tinted (with center removed) to see the difference during day time (looks darker in person, but the camera captures the reflection and makes it look brighter) :

When darker outside the tint looks way darker... and better too... center removed :

Getting ready to order the Smoke Lamin-X covers for my new taillights. Not ordering anything for the headlights (yet-still undecided if I want to tint or whether these old defective eyes need all the light).
BTW, I don't recall seeing any photos of Zesus' car with the Lamin-X installed..:ohreally:

Also, I am thinking that I will remove the fim from the clear portion of the lens, I really think it looks best that way.

Thanks mjhpadi,
I am waiting to see Zeus's ones too : )
If you want to go ahead with front lights, I used tint 6%, which only block 6% of the light. I bought a better bulb that doesn't overheat and visibility is at least the same if not better than before. It gives a nice touch without being to ghosty. I would have gone darker in the back, but not legal where I live, so better like this.

Nice, Nice, NICE! :hail:

Lovin it :munch:
Thanks Mike,
Before throwing to garbage the film, I used a portion to cover the deflector located under the bumper... I can't see on your pics, did you have them covered too?

Huh? Photos please. Do you mean deflectors or reflectors on the rear bumper? Thanks.

Hey Mark,

I initially ordered the Lamin-X a few weeks ago and then after seeing it on Steve's car I decided to go with the darker tint. Lamin-X was good enough to change my order so I didn't complain about the extra wait for the last 2 weeks. I received a notification that they shipped the other day although I used the free shipping option so it may take forever for them to arrive. I will, of course post pics when I get them installed. I'm also going to mess around with the badging at this time too. Once again, starting my new job at the Ford store has been taking up alot of time so I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to start with this...... :munch:

Thanks, Andrew, I ended up ordering the "Smoke" for the taillights. Just picked up the car and the new taillights look much better. Don't have any idea how soon it will arrive, but I think I am going to wait for a hot day to do the install, since the film should be a little more flexible in the heat.

Canada post's strike... spoiled little kids working 5 hours a day, paid 50K$ a year to take a daily walk listening to their ipod with no stress going back home AND with pension plan... Hey guys! we're in 2011, that can't continue!!! I am waiting for my Lamin-x too, just needed to share my feelings about the situation... lol! ; )

Received my Lamin-X for the tailights this morning. However, I really haven't had a chance to check it out. Was at my retina specialist this morning and received another injection in my eye (to go along with the Lamin-X) and the Lamin-X got delivered about the time my numbness was wearing off, so because of pain and being unable to see to well (eye duilated before injection), I am waiting until after-effects of injection wear off to check out the Lamin-X. Although, I was impressed by packaging and quick delivery of my order.

Good for you. I am still waiting for mines, but Canada Post is still under strike... I hate them!!! Good luck for your vision!

Haha. I'm with you Steve. Canada post is driving me friggin' nuts! Not only am I waiting for my Lamin-X covers, but I'm also waiting for a few cheques from a company that I do consulting for in San Antonio!
Money is a little tight with the recent job change so those cheques would be greatly appreciated right now :swing:

Just got in from "test" fitting the Lamin-X I received for my taillights. Discovered a few things. The Lamin-X is cut a bit larger then the tailight, thus it will require trimming the outside edges. I was not impressed with this, but after thinking about it, I think it is a good thing, will make installation easier and require less precision to cover the whole lens. Also the film will require trimming around the chrome piece that covers the portion of the taillight on the trunk. At first look, this looks like it may be the hardest part to trim and fit correctly, also it will make removing the film from the clear part of the lens a bit more difficult.
I was going to attempt to install today, but because of wind and cool temps, I am going to wait for a calm, warmer day. I would suspect that installation is going to require a few hours and some patience. Also the tint shipped on a roll, so I laid mine out to flatten it because a curl had set in, I believe that having it flat will aid installation. More after installation, hopefully there will be pics, depending on whether I can find a camera...

Good luck with the install, Mark. I'm sure it will go well and will look awesome.

So I couldn't wait, removed the tailights and installed the Lamin-X...not camera because the wife has it, but I'm pleased with the install, took about three hours and this was my first time applying tint film.

Cool Mark, good job. You have more confidence and patience than me... I paid a professional 60$ for the install of head and tail lights. I figured he was more experienced, better equipped and the job was guaranteed as he is a Lamin-x recommended installer. It took him about an hour and a half to do the 4 lights. The install of tail lights were not perfect, still had little bubbles, but after a few weeks, that material can breathe and the bubbles disappear. I will have to have them installed again since I had my tail lights replaced for chrome defect, but I will cut the center part myself, that is not too hard. I know that the guy was using a heater gun for some places on tail lights where it was not flat, it helped molding to it.
Well, good job anyways and please post pics when yo can.
Cheers!
