If your talking about a CTS-V, then I must say it will blow the doors off the SHO. How do I know, I own both of them. The CTS-V pumps out 565 HP, in comparison to my SHO at 365 HP. Each car has its own attractions. The "V" is a unique car and does have a some nice styling and some interior pluses. All depends on what someone is after.

You may say that it will blow the doors off the SHO (it should for 200 more horsepower and 2 more cylinders) but real world figures for 1/4 mile times...it really isn't all that much faster for the extra HP and extra money...and yes, I do like the CTS...just noting that it depends on point of view if the CTS is greater then the SHO.

And why is it that Japaneese, like Toyota, try to make sure their cars are made without defect before they sell you the car,

you can't be serious...Toyota's faults are the worst of any manufacturer if you have not read a newspaper in the past year. Toyota is also the only manufacturer who posted a quarterly loss recently, while Ford enjoyed big gains.

I also had both, the V is hands down quicker but the SHO is leaps and bounds ahead in terms of quality and fit and finish.

This is my first automatic transmission vehicle and since i was trying to stay in American performance sedan on this pass my next choices were the CTS V, Charger/300m SRT 8, or the Pontiac G8

I think you made a good choice. MPG on those other cars would have been about half what you have now... not to mention the CTS-v is about half again the cost of a SHO.

My wife and I also shopped other brands, including the CTS-V prior to purchasing the SHO.

CTS line is definitely a sharp product, but the overwhelming price point in comparison to the SHO pushed us away.

Besides, it was our opinion that the overall package, amenities, etc in the SHO was far superior to the CTS.

Another deciding factor was the fact our 3 kids needed a reasonable amount of room in the backseat, something the CTS lacked big time.

Admittedly, the CTS-V is faster, however as after-market products continue to be developed for the current Gen4 SHO's, I'm certain some of us will give those V's a run for their money.

To modify a Gen4 SHO will still cost less than a loaded CTS-V hands down. Simply adding a Livernois Stage 3 or Stage 4 tune alone will boost HP #'s considerably, not 565 like the V, but certainly closer.

Again, more product is in development and our SHO's will inevitably close that gap. Just my .02 cents worth :salute:

From what I've seen, I think modding either car is about the same cost. Headers / Tune / Pulley (for supercharger) etc.. can get you close to 700HP... For the SHO, not sure the tranny or AWD system would handle anything in excess of 450... guestimate anyways.

Interesting that you should post this...just saw a piece on the CTS and I was quite surprised that it really doesn't do anything much better then the SHO and to have it fully equipped the price tag tickles $70,000.00!!! Can't say as i really believe that for a supercharged V-8 that gets less mileage and isn't really any faster then the SHO that it would be worth 20 grand to me for the CTS.

Well, I can't afford a new SHO or CTS V. I never buy new, so I never look at what a new one costs. (A new SHO is what, a $700 a month mayment??? Let alone a CTS V...) I prefer the manual gear box over the slush box most of the time and I think the V has a more aggressive look. I've always been a fan of a V8 over a V6 so I gravitated toward the V. Both of them are so far out of my price range, even used, it's not funny, so since I can dream just as much as the next guy I would prefer the V. For me to "decide" between a new SHO or CTS V is like a ten year old trying to decide between a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. Just dreaming with a preference.

@pitaSHO that summed up my opinion on the whole matter. Couldn't possibly afford either in my wildest dreams but if lottery blessed me I would go with the CTS-V simply for it's manual tranny or a G8 GXP if price really mattered. I LOVE theo 2010 SHO but those other vehicled just look the part to me.

Back From The Shop

Just picked up my SHO back from the dealership after correcting the 4 TSB's for my car that I learned about on this forum. The rattle seems to be gone and the brakes don't grind. I didn't get to test every thing out completely because its late but everything seems to be fine for now. Regarding the choice between the CTS V and SHO it was not HP that was the issue but transmissions. I really like pure manual transmission; so much so that I have never purchased an automatic vehicle for myself until now. I also have a fully tuned AC Schnizter BMW 5 series 6speed with 470hp that I got in lieu of an M5 simply because M5s were not availlable in manual (they are now); and an Infinity G35 sedan 6speed. I'm not that big of a fan of SMG's, steptronics or any other sport like auto transmissions. My Ford was a test for American and automatics. It needs a little work but I think this car could really be great with a little more massaging. While my car was in the shop I actually went and looked at the MKS trying to convince myself that if I stayed this course, a THX system, parking assist, and a big oh moonroof is worth the extra 8 grand. Not convinced yet, any thoughts on the MKS?

Ford still has a long way to go with quality.

07 Toyota 4Runner with 89k: no squeaks, no rattles; built solid and reliable...pulled the service history from the PO, just routine maintenance only. Oh yeah, it was built in Japan; unlike the US built Camrys that had issues.
