I got a mail solicitation for a rust guard and paint protection (says 4 years guaranteed wet look, no waxing) for Beauty Gard (yeah, that's how it is spelled). I've never heard of these guys or this brand. The last time I undercoated a car, I did it myself and it lasted at least 7 years (just sold it, and I put it on the car when it was already 9 years old).

Has anyone used Beauty Gard? These guys are near 8 Mile and Schoenherr (for us MI people). I'm just curious. I did some very quick Google research and didn't find much...just 2 or 3 people saying they liked it.

Thanks.

I bought the paint protection/interior protection package from my dealer here in Va. Coverage was $595 for 7 years. They are putting it on Wednesday. They say it is a polymer and takes all day... I put a polymer on our '97 Taurus when new, and that cars paint still looks new. Torredor red.

I'm also debating the 3M clear film protection. I know that Ford claims better paint durability than Lexus. Those of you that have had your for a few seasons, if you had it to do over again, would you put this clear film paint protection on??

Thanks. I wonder what the cost is for this aftermarket treatment. I didn't even consider this when I bought the SHO. That's interesting to hear that your '97 still looks good.

I'm still searching for a place that will completely wrap every body panel on my car with the 3m stuff.
Better paint durability or not. I want 0 scratches and dings.

Thats so stupid it would be cheaper to paint the whole car if you are getting it done correctly. I am done with the 3m stuff on my bumper. It makes the car look like **** when you see the seam and it swirls easy and is impossible to correct swirls in it. It also makes the paint look orange peeled.

Personally I don't believe in lifetime paint protection. For me I would rather wax the car once every two weeks and I can guarantee it will look and feel better. Of course a clay bar every 1-2 months will help with that too. I would be interested in the undercoating though. How much is done from the factory?

There are several different paint protection films available, and some don't have that subtle orange-peel look. I have my custom-painted Saleen Mustang and Acura RL "clear bra'd" with the new films and they're undetectable from a couple of feet away.

I'm with you I'm not sure how much I believe in a "lifetime" protection...besides for an old married guy, the time I spend detailing the car is time I enjoy. I haven't had undercoating since I had a 83 RX-7. A friend owned the dealership and they offered a spray-on coating that was clear and never completely dried, so if it got scraped it would "heal" itself. However, in order for the warranty to stay in effect you had to have the undercoat checked yearly. It had a chemical in it, so that when exposed to blacklight (uv) you could see if it needed to be reapplied. I liked that as an undercoat but I can't remember the name of that product. Also, there was no cost after the initial price if it needed to be touched up during the yearly check. I usually wax my car monthly and use Quick Detailer every two or three days to keep the car shiny. It's a lot of time invested, I do get a lot of comments about how good the car looks. Just for the record...waxing means clay barring (if needed), cleaner, polish or glaze, and wax. Takes time but it's much better the some of the "Honey-Do" jobs that the wife wants me to tackle. ;)
