Anywhere local where I can buy a new one that won't cost some ridiculous amount?

I just changed my oil today and noticed that it was slightly stripped a bit but still works but I want to have a good one on there next time I do it.

First time changing the oil in a car for me. Boy it was easy. I've done some motorcycles and they make a mess.

Thread is M14 X 1.5. Any parts store should be able to look it up by application.

Don't forget to put a 2 liter soda bottle over the starter to keep the oil from running all over it and breaking it - in case you didn't know.

The oil doesn't break the starter.

If that's the case then why do reman'd starters sometimes give warnings about oil leaking on the starter causing breakage???

...to cover their buts because they put the least amount of $ into their rebuilds that they have to.

My '88 Oldsmobile had the original starter at 200k, and my '98 Taurus also has the original starter at 101k.

The oil pours over the starter every 3k and they go on just fine.

It is because they both had original quality, factory starters.

When they ship the old units to mexico/china and rebuild them they will fail whether they get oil on them or not.

If oil really ruined the starters you would see them failing left and right...which you don't. You only see the cheap rebuilds failing.

I recomend getting a magnetic one while your at it.
