My Fidanza insert is all cracked up and my spare steel flywheel is very rusty. If anyone has a good flywheel please PM or call me ASAP.

Matt I have 2 here. Also have a new, small diameter (old skool type) brand new insert, but would advise you not to mess around with that on tight time constraints.

Is it cracked all the way through, or just surface cracking/checking?

The inserts normally require drilling out on a drill press, carefully, to avoid taking the threads out.

Don't know, I haven't pulled it yet. As soon as I saw the cracks I called Kirk and made this post. But they are pretty good sized cracks in a few different spots.

Thanks John. I don't know if I'd trust a j/y to have anything better than the spare I have, though.

It could just be heat checking (not through cracks). Is any material missing? This is the insert, or the actual aluminum flywheel (if it is the latter proceed with caution).

See my post for above for the one in Lowell. If you paid them by cc they would leave it outside the gate for you.

Jeff is north of Ayer and likely has a flywheel or 2 around let me see if I can raise him.

Just realized the pins in my spare were cut off flush with the friction surface. Does that mean it's a paperweight?

Left a message with your phone number with Jeff (batchman on this list) think he's in the town just west of Tyngsboro.

Eric T. might be another resource in your area (RStalveyARFF)

I just spoke with Kirk, he has a steel flywheel and an insert. I'm heading to NESHO in a few minutes.

Thanks for your help John.

PS - I just pulled the flywheel, and the insert is REALLY warped in one area. I don't even know how it was functioning up to this point.

I had high hopes of saving the day but after searching I think I left my stock steelie with Fred after we did the Fidanza/Spec swap. I work in Tyngsboro so that would have been just too easy.

If you need to surface the replacement then Pat Michaels (across from Bridgeview on Middlesex St) has the right setup to surface a FW, not a brake lathe. Of course I don't think he's open on Saturdays - just check the big steel bar gate - if it's open you stand a chance. Be ready to chat a while though - but oh the eye candy in that shop.

On the other hand if needed I had the engine shop behind/right of Tim's Speed in Nashua (forget their name) do a check on my Fidanza before putting it in (check surface and torque), he was reasonable and quick.

Hope Kirk's solution works out for you,
- Jeff
