Many Body Questions due to 4 crappy previous owners

These are issues that have been bugging me since we got the car. I want to fix the ones that I can afford to.
I'll just list them on top of each picture I guess....

This car has been repainted at least once from the looks of it. Also it looks like there was zero prep work done and the color doesnt even match the orignal color.

First issue. What chemical can I use to get this paint off the mirrors?

Second, I have a very small spot of bubbles and a speck of rust on the passenger side rear at about eye level. I have a very small sandblaster in the garage aswell. if i blasted this and primed it could i just lay down some touch up paint or would this spot be to big?


Rear window trim. It's all baked like a potato chip. I've been to a could of glass places and they said the only way I can fix it is to get a new piece of glass since the glass comes already in the gasket.


Okay now these two drive me nuts more than anything....
Swirl marks in the hood are so bad I just get mad looking at it. The only time the hood looks good is when its got an even coat of water on it while i wash the car. The passenger side fender has a similar story, it looks like someone tried to wax the hood and fender when some electric tool and brought the old paint up on the fender or something....





The bumper is pretty torn up from running over parking blocks and has rips in it and spiderweb cracks. With some help im not bad at repairing things with fiberglass so would it be worth it to repair it or just get another?

Lastly.... These scuffs from hitting a pole or something like that. They are not just surface scuffs. But they dug into the plastic a little bit. Is there a solution for that?



I hoping that I dont need to have the entire thing repainted... That's way too rich for my blood and even though I dislike the shade they used I have to admit the paint job is alright with the exception of the mirrors getting painted and the front bumper paint peeling.

My SHO looks good from far away as long as you dont notice two backwards slicers but when it's close up.. Man this crap stands out.

I like the calk on the back window! Man that poor car! I just go to the junk yard and see if you can find some "slo" mirrors that car! That would make it better in away! And just pick one thing at a time to work on! Then go from there! I wouldn't rule out a repaint!

Its so sad looking. People who know about SHOs and that they are something special see me in it and think I'm some ****** who doesn't car about his car.


Also the junkyards here are usless. They wont let you walk the yard and they want you to buy pretty much a whole car. Now if I ever saw an MTX with a blown engine I'd be all over it

sucks man, I can keep an eye out for you...? Just work it out man, I use to feel the way you did...acouple of years ago, My car was beat down...needed everything...and a transmission blow out! Now things are looking up, and the car is running great! Keep your head up....and you will catch up to it....and then your next sho will be even better, because you already now what to look for!

I hear ya about looking like a dick that doesnt take care of their car, mine has some spots i need to tackle as well but i have fender rot so that is going to be harder to fix. However, the first thing i would do before any of that stuff is lose the f'in pinstripe.

lol..looks like my drive way almost.. With the green 97 expedition and the green 94. And with the pinstripe? use a little heat from a heat gun and scrape the pinstripe with a finger nail.. thats what i did. Also.. make sure that pin stripe doesnt have any overspray from paint or clear coat... otherwise it will be a ***** to take off. Since the stripe looks pretty good and intact i wouldnt really bother with it right now. The rust hole you probably could tackle.. but if you really want to get the car to look halfway decent you are probably gonna be looking for a Uspray booth and a buddy who can lay down a good coat of paint. If money is a serious issue i would just go with a single stage.

the hood and fender arent swirlded paint, they are sand scratch markes from the "cut" part of "cut and buff". those can be taken care off by anyone that knows how to properly buff a paint job

fiberglass is the wrong material to repair the bumper, just buy a new one and have it painted because often the spiderweb cracks in pain go INTO the plastic and can show again later.

the rust bubbles on the c pillar ned some deep clensing, to do them right the glass on either side has to come out and the area ground down / metal patched as they LOOK like they are coming from the backside.

im pretty sure your right that the rear window trim is only available w/ glass attached

I purchased two used mirrors for my 1994 - One was black and one was red with the paint peeling and black showing through.

I sanded them to a ruff surface and took standard black auto paint and sprayed them down a few times. Flat Black will do and it matches fairly close to the original. As long as you paint both they look good. If you want I can post pictures later today if you wish to see them.

you can sand down the mirrors also!....and then buff it out! Huntervf, did this for Eric Vervalin's car and they turned out pretty good! awsome if I may say so myself!

Yeah you should have seen the ones that came on the car. They were not worth the trouble of restoring.

I dont want to sound harsh , but its a junker. Its way passed his time to be saved.

Theres 3-500$ shos out there 10 times in better shape. Id use this as a DD till it dies. And grab 500$ and look for another one.

One thing it has going it has going for it is that the body is in sound shape. It's a Florida car and I shouldn't have to worry about it suffering the same fate as yours for a while. I can't see it having a serious mechanical failure anytime soon....

I KNEW IT!!! My co-worker told me about it so I went and saw it after work. Drove it around for about an hour and the lady there told me $3000 cash or $5500 buy here pay here so I left it. It seemed to drive well but i wasn't paying that for it. Hope it starts behaving for you.

its not smeared paint, its just the sanding marks from removing the orange peel in the final paint job.

its REALLY hard to smear paint, and to smear that much area Gozer and Zuul themselves would have to work together to get it done in less then a century

The pattern to the marks is spot on for sanded ("cut") orange peel
