Hey Guys,

I had a few newbie questions:

I've heard a lot of different opinions as to whether or not Ford can actually tell if you've put on a custom tune. Some say that Ford can definitely tell while others say that they'll notice a code that is similar to you unplugging your battery. I was curious if anyone has a definitive answer to the question. If you reload the factory tune on your car can Ford tell you've messed with it? If so, would you recommend going to a Lincoln dealership for all of your warranty work or would they have the same level of interest as Ford?

Also, I've read through all of the posts on this thread and now I'm not so sure about the safety of tuning my SHO. I want to tune my car so that I can smoke your higher end audis/mercedes/bmws and even the camaros/srt8s. My problem is I dont want to tune my car and end up blowing my engine leaving me with a car without a warranty and engine. If done correctly what are the odds of having serious problems in the future?

I owned an F150 and put on the Roush supercharger through the dealership. I never had warranty/engine issues but it was nice knowing that if I did, Roush basically took over my existing engine warranty. Speaking of tunes, Roush did the ABSOLUTE WORST job on their tune. For the two years I owned the truck they couldnt solve an issue in which my truck along with others would either throw the truck into safety mode while shifting into second or prevent my truck from randomly shutting off while pulling to a stop.

Anyways, I was also curious if anyone here had a suggestion for someone like myself getting a tune. I've heard people suggest certain shops but since I live in CO (higher altitude) is it feasible to even have them tune something for me? I'd like to find someone like SHODWN here locally. If I get a tune for my SHO i want it to be someone that actually gives a damn about doing the work right. Being in the construction business I know just how important it is to do quality work making sure all of your ts are crossed. I guess my question is: if you were in my shoes, what would you do in regards to finding a good tune?

Thanks guys,

it's the only place i've ever worked as far as cars, was in the nutrition business for 15 years.

it's been a good fit, been racing the fords for about 11 years, started here about 6 years ago.

did 34.5 cars last month

Jerry made SCT along with two others.. IIRC Jerry no longer works there.. I have met Jerry many many times..

anyway.. what im saying is that the tables are not worng but the tables on this car are used from other Ford Downloads.. they are not SHO Specific.. there so many things that do not convert properly to what all of us know as tuners..

the software says.
Maf

IMRC's
and many more.

data logging is even worse!

Like I said I know Ken is great, im just concerned that people are not reading and understanding what they are doing.. and scared that people will get blown up fast..

in short people "all" need to take months and go through this data that we are provided.. Next time your over there ask him to see just the turbocharger section.. dude it will blow your mind! open up every sub menu too

I agree with you though, after reading all about Hen's stuff I would not go with them for free.. but who knows they could turn out ok.. Its my point when I show the tabes to a turbine guy who knows maps of turbos and says that there is no way that these numbers are correct.. that scares me man.. that all of us could be adding to these cars but not truly understanding whats actually going on..

ps. I heard it was Torrie but not from you.. at that point you werent sure.. but now I guess its public knowledge..

im out I have to go to Canada for a SHO wedding

I didn't think I said Jerry was at SCT, I said Jerry writes databases for SCT.

As far as Torrie, I guess you don't remember the PM's we exchanged back in October where I told you that you didn't want to be the 2nd tuner to blow an engine up? I knew within the hour of Torrie blowing his motor.

I guess you also don't remember asking me to send you copies of my tune files for you to look at either, lol......

Looks like Ken will be in FL now as well. He was recruited by Diablosport to work on their new programmer and write the tunes for them as well.

Not to Hijack this thread or anything, but the Fact that Beefcake got OUT of the Ford V6 Turbo game now Speaks VOLUMES!!! Ie., Too Hard to Tune right now Without Blowing them Up!!!

Still surprised that you didn't wait a few months though on the Mustang, as Now the 420Horse GT's are about to hit the road, why did you start with a WEAK 315horse 4.6??

I didn't sell it because of the tuning. That had nothing to do with it. Ken already had a dyno day set up for the car with him and Jerry in Columbus.

As far as starting off with a weak 4.6. The 4.6 has been a great motor. You have a price increase of $1800 on the new car, add the $2500 rebates. Thats 4300. I paid $5400 for my techco installed on the car, that includes a gt500 fuel system.

So, i've got enough power to run low 11.s for just $1100 over the cost of the 5.0.

However, i'm a short block away from 625-650 rwhp.

That power level would take a shortblock in the 5.0 as well.
