i was cruising at 85 in fifth car **** shifter popped out of gear and smoke behind me. pulled over and my fluid was dumping out. all the gears still work, **** the car will still go.(i didn't drive it) this has happened to me once before and i had no choice but to give the repair to a shity shop that did everything wrong ( i was 200 miles from home) so i surmise that my spider gears through a chunk punching a hole in the case and now i'm pretty F'ED. There’s a sho of the same year in a junk yard and i'm wondering if this is so common that it would be unwise to use a unknown used sho trans. any incites? from any one please. p.s. also does anyone know were i can find procedures for the swap.

Yes, it's common. Do a search for SHO Boom.

Before you install the new transmission, you'd do well to have your differential welded at the very least to avoid a repeat performance.

And stop doing burnouts if that's your thing.

are you talking about welding the diff pin?

Yes or get a Wavetrac. You blue your differential pin. Welding helps but the best way is to replace.

You might want to contact us at SHO SOurce. We can get you a used transmission and help with the install.

more reliable, maybe...but not stronger. personally, next time i eat a trans, i'm gonna have the diff yanked and have a thin steel band wrapped around it to hold the pins in place until i can get a wavetrac or a quaife built tranny.

Sorry Matt, couldn't resist!:laugh_ti:

If you are on your 4th or 5th MTX tranny, you need to be kicked in the sack!!!:hyper::fit::confused::eek::shrug::braincramp::theyareontome::ohreally::shakehead:cuss::3gears:

:neverlearn:

The Wave Trac and Quaife are worth every penny! I cannot stress this enough. What good is having power that just goes up in smoke? If you start to add up the cost to replace a blown tranny, the Quaife/Wave Trac becomes very affortable quickly.

Used MTX tranny $350.00
New clutch,pp,tob and resurfaced flywheel $350
Labor rate to R&R tranny and clutch $500

$1200.00 just that quick to get you back on the road with no improvement in performance or durability.
