Just wondering what others are paying for their SHO. I have a 24 month lease with 0 down at $732 per month. That is with the Ford X plan and $1000 rebate because I am changing from my Pontiac to Ford. The 36 month price is $678.

Wow, that is alot of money. I don't own a new SHO but would never pay $700 a month for any car.

Says the guy with a Viper in his sig.

I kid, I kid, you probably aren't/didn't pay that much.

That was saving money for a couple years and paid cash. Last and only vehicle I financed was a $32000 Dodge Ram and it cost $450 a month 5 years ago.

My payment is 1100.00

I financed like 39K with 4K down (The minimum)

I prefer to use their money at 0%instead of mine.

i'm not an expert but the 0 down doesnt help that price i dont think. from what i understand if you put zero down it jacks up the monthly price alot, the more you pay down the less the monthly price. maybe everyone knows this and i'm just late to find out

G-Damn! My rent is 1100. I can't imagine adding a car payment the same size to my bill list. :nut:

Let me be clear.

The 1100 dollar payment is for purchase not a lease.

I have found in 2010 leases for the most part make no fiscal sense any more for us.

So yes I have a 36 month payment of 1100.00. My guess is the car s/b worth somewhere in the mid 20's in 3 years.

We shall see

Thanks for the input, looks like I would be better off to purchase instead of lease, hopefully it will be worth something in 3 years......

Leasing is a great idea if you don't go over their mileage limits and you can make sense of the buy back at the end of the term. You pay more, of course, but you get the 2 or 3 year test drive. If the car has disappointed you, you don't have to worry about the buy back. Nice and clean. That has to be worth something.

You don't pay more with a lease, if i lease a vehicle on my dplan, it's the same price as a buy.

if a vehicle stickers for $40k and my dplan is 36k, then i pay 36k

if i lease the vehicle and the residual is say 65% after 2 years. i pay 12,600 over the 2 years, and my buyout is 23,400. i've still paid 36,000

I stand corrected.
That makes leasing the only way to go. The 3-year test drive and no premium price, what a deal!
That will help sell a lot of SHOs.

Beefcake,

I understand your logic.. however with a lease you can't do any Mod's to it. Also in 2010, I don't think anyone is safe to know what their commute might be like in 3 yrs as you very well may be with a new employer

However the biggest thing is the money factor and the RESIDUAL along with the insurance you have to buy for it.

Ford and other manufactures have lowered the residual value so much on these cars that IMHO it makes no sense for me to lease a vehicle

you can still mod the car, take your mods back off when you get rid of it.

as far as residual, a 3 yr 12k mile taurus residual is 49%, compared to a 5yr buy where you would be 60% value in, your payment would be less.

and the biggest thing, after the 3 years, you walk away with 0 neg equity

Beefcake,

I think were looking at this from different angles.

The majority put over 12K on a car annually. Yes you can do mods, but as you said you have to put it back to stock when turning it in. So you have the cap cost of the mod, no residual value to it and then the cost to bring it back to stock.

In addition your 49% residual sounds about right. I was guestimateing the car will be worth 50% of sticker in 3yrs, but your comparing it to a 5 yr payment plan. My payment are 36 months.

For me buying makes mores sense, for others leasing may make more sense. In the early part of 2000's, leasing made complete sense for us, as they had the residuals at 20% higher than the value of the car.

Yep. Leases have gotten bad over the last few years as the residuals have not turned out to be near what the mfrs expected. Leases only make sense in very few cases. For a 24-month deal, that payment sounds reasonable.

And, for all the guys on this Forum who have never bought a new car (like, most of them) and think that a primo low-mileage older SHO shouldn't cost over $3K (more of you than the previous example), you are out of your league in this discussion.

SHOs have always been expensive. It was that way when I bought the new '89, and when I bought the new '99. If it weren't for us new-car SHO buyers, most of you would be driving used Hondas with fart cans.
