I'll probably just get the standard coppers next time. $6 for a full set and I can get them locally :)

You do know that the Autolite race plugs are different from copper Autolites in that (and I quote) "Provides cut back ground electrode, anti-corrosive nickel plating and large ground electrode for better heat transfer" plus they "look to be" about 1 heat range colder number for number.

I ran the regular coppers before I rebuilt the motor and Scott has always run them on his remote-turbo. They seem to do the job just fine for me. I'm not knocking these at all, but I personally don't think they'll provide any extra benefit for my application.

The only reason I stopped using them is I thought I was getting a really good plug with the Denso's.

Anybody tried the NGK Iridium plugs? I had them in the car for around 50k (hard) miles and they seemed to hold up pretty well. I don't have particularly high cylinder pressure compared to most of the cars in this thread, though... :)

I think I run that gap (or slightly larger) for a blown application. I think you can open that up to .035 - .040.

I agree on the 0.035 , you do want them a little narrow at the beginning because they will open up quickly because they are copper.

The good thing is that the worse thing that can happen if your gap is too wide for the amount of boost you are running is the flame kernel isn't ignited. But of course, if you run it that way for long, you will dilute your oil with gas.

the fatter, shorter side electrode is a big deal, worth it for a FI application. if you cut back the side wire on a copper plug, its still made of the thinner wire. Also the racing plugs typically have high strength steel shells (1017 Vs 1008.) and they have the treads cut after they are plated, so you typically get sharper threads.

the narrowest gap you can run is about .017", much below that and you will see idle stability problems. at full throttle it does not really matter what the gap is, so long as its not too wide for the coil to fire it. .030 is pretty good for FI, much larger than .060 and it may start to misfire at WOT.

also if you find that you foul out plugs with "off road only" octane boosters (the tips are coated with red) a smaller gap will prolong their life a few thousand miles.

I would really recomend starting with a smaller set of jets first. You can then swap them for the bigger ones.

Also make sure you use hose clamps on the vaccum and FPR lines. They WILL SHOOT OFF!!!

i wanted to ask you about that brian, what did you use for the hose on the fpr? i cant get a hose clamp to get that small. all the others have clamps already, been running the box and everything hooked up for about a week.

Off the plug topic but what did you decided on the installation/ intake setup?
what do you mean?

ive got my nmu mounted where the high current fuse box is on the gen2's and the line will go into the bottom of the rubber intake tube with a bulkhead fitting.

I recently just replaced mine and gaped them to 32. I was getting a bad backfire under full boost. So i tore them out and gap'd them to 35. That is working good for me now without blowing out.

Hope that helps you Justin.

I also had a set of Densos go bad on me. Misfired enough that it chunked a cat and my car has been a paperweight since.
