Ok guys and gals I'm trying for something alittle different so I was thinking before I get my car painted I would have our fab guy do suicide doors on the back doors. I'm having a hood fab'ed already, ( a dual nostril cowl hood ) but I want to do any and all fab work before I get it painted so were not cutting, welding, and re painting. Will it look bad? is it possible? has it even been done yet? So gimmie whatcha got!!!

but on the 3rd gen is it possible??? Nissanchik27's Boyfriend is the fab guy, he's a great fabricator and he said it could be done but had that look like "do i wanna get into that" my husband says the stuff i need is pricey and heavy. I don't really care about the weight cuz I'm not racing my car so it doesnt need to be light. My husband was thinking some kind of "gull wing" but it's not pratical at the grocery store.

suicide doors would be a first, ever i think on a gen3 SHO. with that said i don't think they would look all that great, most suicides i've seen have a very square looking door, where the back has some meat to it, so its not just floating off of the car. (it's got a flat contact area jsut like the front of the rear door does on our car)

did that make any sense?

My honest opinion, No. Leave it on older cars. It'd look like that silver Oldsmobile that HoustinoJillian posted.

EDIT: sweet hearse

HoustinoJillian, your "not this" photo is exactly what mine would look like... kinda.....what kinda car is that?? a bonniville??? I understand what your saying about needing a completely flat door side. This is exactly why i'm asking you guys.

Lol, i thought it looked like a Saturn :bonk:

As far as the suicides go....i think it would be a feat, but it would definitely be a first and if thats something you are willing to spend money on go for it.

It might be something neat to see on a show car, but if you plan on driving it every day I'd say take a pass. Too much stuff to break and go wrong and high upkeep costs to go along with that.

I apologize it is a Saturn, S series at that. Looked like a Cutlass 4 door from the mid 90's

I was thinking about that too... as of right now it is my daily driver/ kid hauler/ daycare car.... hopefully someday I'll beable to put it up and get a winterbeater. I think that's why I've let go of the idea of a supercharger right now and going with the bottle instead. That and my husband doesnt think i can handle the "always on" power of the blower.

I think a hood like the early 70s GTO had would look good on the Gen 3.

Now THAT'S badass!!!! Though it'd be a bitch trying to find one.

My initial thought on the whole thing was to put the hinges up near the tops of the doors, where the only flat spot is. But after much contemplation on the matter, I realize that'd be the worst thing to do, as I don't think that particular part of the door has enough strength to support the weight of that monster. That, and they'd flip up kinda weird.

okie so right now I'm torn with the doors, the hood is gonna happen, I need to find the perfect hood to use, distroy and fab onto my hood. I was thinking about the Grand Am/Prix hood...... I can picture what I want just can't really find it. Anyway it will be done before it's painted in May.... just in time for the convention!!!!

I have been a car nut since I was seven years old. (now a long time ago) With the shape of the rear doors on any of the Taurus cars i feel it would not look good at all. Remember the Continental that had the rear suicide doors? Now they looked neat, however it too was a squared door. I would leave well enough alone on the doors. I think Ford did a great job on the design of these cars, esp. the front bumper cover and the rear spoiler, (SHO). The hood will look outstanding. I love the look of the ram-air trans-ams. I can't wait to see the posts of that hood!!!!
