Was leaving work this morning, i got about half way home when i rolled the drivers side window down, and my head unit turned itself off. Rolled the window up and it turned itself on! W.T.F  I have had this thing for 8 days and im about to put a for sale sign on it.
Does any one know what the **** is going on?
Thanks.

Nope. only on the drivers front window. As soon as I push the down butten its turns off. I'm going to go ahead and pull the head unit out, and install a new harness. And see if that solves the broblem. oh

I don't know what the problem is, but it sounds like a typical wiring issues to me. So typical for Ford...take for example, the multifunction switch, not only does it control your windshield wipers and washer, your turn signals and emergency signals but it also can screw up your headlights and cruise control.

does it happen when you use express down? Does it happen when you initially push down? Does it happen when you push the button, and the radio turns off after you let go? What ever it is.... sound's like alot of unwanted bs

sux man sorry!

Here are a couple of suggestions:
First, find out where the power loss (i.e. voltage drop) is occurring. Start at the back of the radio (I believe it's a yellow wire) and verify that you have 12V (~14 with the engine running) and that it is in fact dropping significantly when you roll the window down. That being the case, start working back through the wiring harness until you find a solid 12V signal.
While it is possible that there may be a problem with the express down module, any significant overload on that circuit should blow a fuse. What is more likely is that a connection (be it a harness contact or in the ignition switch) is failing, creating a resistance as the current through it increases.

Alternatively, try holding several of the other window switches down to see if that creates a large enough load for the radio to shut off. In the case of the accessory circuit, there is not really any other high current component to use as a check for a harness/ignition switch problem.

Let me know what you find out, or if I've said anything that is unclear.

Chuck,

Not sure if you've seen it, but take a look at this post of mine from a few months back. I was having some shorting issues when putting down my driver's side window that turned out to be my express down module.

Worth a try. Good luck!

Well, Some people on this earth scare me.... somehow one of the wires to the express window mod. got spliced into the the ground wire to the radio. slap Not only did it fry the head unit, I now have to replace the express window mod.. madflame madflame Now that the problem has been obtained I would like to thank you for your help. This could probably gottin a lot worse if it was not for the help. Thanks!
One other thing do you know where i might find a blower control mod. for the climate control. Yeah the previous owner fried that too. You should see the fuse panel. headbang And once again thanks for the help.

Chuck,

I think you can find an express down module in any Taurus (SHO/non-SHO) and perhaps any Ford of the same era that has power windows. When I fixed my EDM problem, I grabbed two modules from the wrecker since I found two cars with them in about 2 minutes.

Glad you found your problem!

Corey
